Well, late here again, but still...

My view this a little deeper, but I could honestly see this kind of thing happening:

I think that encouraging teachers to carry guns, can only exacerbate the potential destruction on a higher scale.

I don't know the statistics and don't go by statistics on the internet either as they are not necessarily proof, but it is a well known fact here at least, that teachers have a higher rate of Mental breakdowns that in other professions for instance.

I have also heard, from teachers themselves and see for myself, how much a good number of teachers here drink, then having to teach the next day!

Therefore, to supply teachers with guns, can only create a hugely, and potentially destructive situation, b/c how will they justify shooting a pupil?

(Scenario) Supposing a teacher is not able to cope well with pupils as it is (there are many of those around) and the class is a bit loud one day. There is a pupil or maybe two pupils who are just that bit louder than the rest and giving grief to him/her. The teacher's nerves are bad anyway - the teacher reaches the end of their tether then gets the gun and shoots cos his/her nerves are so bad, he/she just cannot take anymore.

Now it's OK for that teacher, b/c he/she can and probably would in most circumstances, deny it was irrational and suggest that that pupil/those pupils he/she shot, went to 'attack' her/him.

This would then distract the attention from the teacher who is actually teetering on the edge and/or who had drunk too much the night before, as with every night of the week - that teacher's tolerance level is then highly affected, all rationality is 'out of the window'.

Having mental health can and does cause poor, foggy judgement, as does alcohol and drugs (some teachers could be on drugs too).

So, for these reasons, I feel to supply school teachers with guns anywhere in the world, would be very irresponsible.

This is my opinion, but that's how far I can see that happening, that's all.

Even though you hear about this crazy stuff going on, I don't think it's a big enough problem to start talking about teachers carrying guns in school.
Only 3 planes have ever been hijacked and flown into buildings in the US, and none in the last 6 years. But we still have to go through insanely long security checks at the airport.

Just because it doesn't happen much isn't a very good reason to not do anything.

That can happen to cops too, as evidenced by the shooting in Wisconsin. But nobody is talking about taking cops' guns away.

There have been a few terror attempts here recently, to go from here to America - luckily one was caught out just in time and a couple that were foiled before they got to an airport.

Airport security has to always be happening from now on really - complacency is far worse than caution nowadays.

I agree, I wish all guns were stopped, but I think the police forces will always be armed, but keeping it to a minimum is better, otherwise it'll be all shop keepers next, ppl working in offices, ppl anywhere infact, having guns.

It's a tough one really with the way so many ppl are so random and unpredictable.
