I try so hard not to think about it yet with kylie...speaking of bombthreats...my last year in highschool they ahd to close the school for about a week because we got about 3 bomb threats a day...the person who made them thought it was a big joke too...caught themselves out cause they told a whole bunch of people that they did it.

*groans* i so dont want to think about how bad its gonna get

your right , the thing is most of the time they know who the bad ones are and do nothing about it till it's to late i say leave school for the kids that want to learn , and as for the bad seeds boot camp where they not only learn to read but learn how to get along /respect others , some schools put out more criminals then good citizens nowadays.

Even though you hear about this crazy stuff going on, I don't think it's a big enough problem to start talking about teachers carrying guns in school. How many kids die as a result of homicide in school each year? And I'm talking all forms, not just gun violence.

There are over 119,000 schools in the US and this is the number of homicides over the past 10 years

And the causes of death for children 5-19 years old

It's just that if something like a school shooting happens, we all hear about it in minutes. It's all over the news for days. And since it's all over the news, we tend to think it's happening right next door. We forget that there are 119,000 schools in this country and that this is an isolated incident. If it were as bad as people think, we would be hearing about multiple incidents every day. And that's just not the case.

According to the chart above, your child age 5-19 is 10 times more likely to die from the Flu or pneumonia... and when was the last time you heard of a kid that age dieing from that? It would make more sense to make your kid wear a surgical mask to school than letting the teacher carry a gun.

it's not just homicide Tim , to many kid live in terror of being beaten up or robed and the kids that commit those crimes need to be put in a place where someone will teach them what their parents don't or wont.

I agree with that, I was just talking about teachers carrying guns.

I know that my school was a zero tolerance school. If you were caught fighting on school grounds, you were held by the teachers until the cops came and hauled your ass out, then you were expelled. And everybody knew that, so I maybe saw 2 fights in high school, it just wasn't worth it...

It was the same for drugs. If you were caught, you had to deal with the police not the principle. It was because of these strict penalties that kids stayed out of trouble.

Then if you looked at the school right up the road in the rich neighborhood, they had fights almost everyday, doing lines of coke in the bathroom and everything else. It was because their parents had money and would not stand for their kids going to jail. So the school just gave out suspensions. It was total bullshit.

I really can see both sides of the argument on this one, so I see where you're coming from.

But I think it could be a deterrent.
I too, see your side of the argument, but I personally do not think that education environments are places for weapons. You know?

No guns for teachers. In Raleigh, a police officer is stationed at each high school. While they have deterred students carrying weapons, it has not stopped drinking and driving unfortunately as the high school my kids attended was named "Final Destination" because it has lost at least 8 or 9 kids in the last two years to this, one of which was my neighbors boy.

all so very true maybe the parents should go to boot camp to , it's not that hard to bring up a good kid if the parents give a damn , pay attention to who they are hanging with things like that can go along way, and make sure you talk to your kids.;)

I dont think they should carry guns. If you are a teacher with a gun, I immediately think you are the enemy. Why you strapped up to teach little ol me? Thats the only thing that would run through my mind.

I think it's stupid that they're even considering letting teachers bring guns to school. What if one day they get a really bad kid, and just snap? that gun would be reaaaaly tempting. You gotta think about what kinds of things the teachers might do in situations. Yes, things like school shootings happen a lot, but giving teachers guns would only worsen the situation.

I wouldn't doubt that there arent some teachers that do carry guns without some people knowing just in case they do need to have them readily available.
