I've heard this brought up in the news a few times, and I figured I'd see what you all think. Should teachers/school admin be allowed to carry guns?

I think they should be allowed if they want to. BUT, they should have to go through the same weapons training as cops. They should also be issued weapons, not carrying their own.

I say no all it takes is one kid to overpower the teacher or steal the gun and all hell breaks loose

No. Schools aren't battlegrounds and arming teachers will just make the school environment more tense and threatening.
I really can see both sides of the argument on this one, so I see where you're coming from.

But I think it could be a deterrent.

most places that are at risk for that though have screening so the kids cant bring the weapons in the building. I think its just asking for trouble its like dangling a carrot in front of some unstable kid that may not have access to a gun that may spark some random impulsive behavior. Most kids and teens live on impulsive behavior.

True, but there's nothing stopping or preventing it at places that aren't high risk.

Wtf??? You should be trying to eliminate guns from being brought into school, not encoraging them. How are you going to prevent the risk of kids getting hold of these teachers guns?

All cops carry guns, I've never heard of them getting their's taken.

I cops job is to use guns though, a teachers job is to teach kids, not be a firearms expert. Don't see why teachers should be distracted from doing their jobs by having to keep a close eye on their guns the whole time they are working and which the'll probably never have any use for anyway.
Like I said, schools arn't the place for guns and allowing anyone to bring them in will only increase the chance of a shooting, not prevent it.

Another thing, I'm not thinking of this as an offensive measure. I wouldn't wanna see the teachers roaming the halls looking for the kid that's shooting up the place. I'm thinking of defensively, after they lock the door to the classroom, to defend the room if the guy with the gun tries to get in.

So what happens if some kid starts shooting and a teacher draws his gun and starts shooting back? I tell you what, seeing there's panic and kids fleeing for their lives, the whole thing gets more confusing and more kids get shot in the cross fire.

no guns but i do see the need for some kind of corporal punishment in school and boot camp for those that hurt and can't get along with others , just kicking them out of school adds up to even more crime.

I dont think its a good idea at all for teachers to have guns...nor would i ever let kylie go to a school where they did.

As aef said
No. Schools aren't battlegrounds and arming teachers will just make the school environment more tense and threatening.
There are other measures that can be taken...in my highschool we had security guards armed with mace and other such things but they had a desk at every door...every exit to make sure no one got in or out unauthorized. and security cameras all over the school.

In high risk places they can have metal detectors if need be. But i see no reason to actually arm teachers. I do agree with peter on this also

The kids wont get the full attention of a teacher who has to worry about watching their guns...

the point of dangling a carrot in front of an unstable kid as audra said...well what about someone who may turn into an unstable teacher too....theres too many variables in cases like this...and despite how dangerous it can be at schools sometimes. There is no reason to add more fuel to the fire

^^^Agree! I've never seen the point of expelling and suspending kids from school. Your average misbehaver dosen't give a shit about their education and not having to go to school is only going to be damaging for their chances of being turned into a good citizen and just gives them even more time to get up to no good.

*edit* I was agreeing with Homer there but I agree with Kat also.;)

The issue came about with that kid up north (im in tx lol) that shot up the place at an alternative school right?

If that is the case, why was there no metal detectors at an alternate school (or ever school for that matter).

In my opinion, we are trying to eliminate guns in schools, thus bringing more guns into the equation would only increase the problem and the possibility that any kid will have access to a teacher's gun by simply overpowering a teacher, or stealing it.

Its just not a good idea.

it's sad that we even have to talk about this , when i was a kid their was alot more respect for others , i don't even want to see what it's going to be like in another 25 years.
