well suicide isn't illegal...so i guess people do have the right to kill themselves. But what about those that are in the hosiptal dying and hanging on by a string? Is it their right to die by their choice? Whatever happened to a higher being.

The Kingdom would be better than here. It is their choice to make.

Assisted suicide under the proper circumstances: yes

suicide in general: people should be aware there are alternatives. counseling for instance

There are alternatives to suicide: therapy, medication, counseling, channeling negative energy into a positive outlet. But when your options are out, and the want is still there, why not?

I was trying to answer the post the way he typed it...there are many other things that go along with suicide that we can talk about that wasn't mentioned. assisted? that would be murder. but we were just talking about plain suicide

Not according to Oregon law. Assisted suicide by a doctor with the proper symptoms (chronic disease) is legal.

Oh, and then there's the point that if you commit suicide, chances are you won't go to heaven, since it is a pretty big sin. And if you don't believe in the here-after, chances are you would commit suicide only as an extreme last resort, since you don't think you'll be getting another chance anywhere.

There is always a choice between suicide and not suicide, but why are we so afraid of the first option? Why is it such a taboo? Do these people not have the right to take their own lives?

sure they do. It's their choice, but then again there are the ones we love, and the ones who love us, who must be taken into consideration. How will our choices affect them? Just things to think about

well now you're going into more detail, when you didn't before. And that may just be in oregon. And what proper symptoms? And what disease? Someone could have aids and be really suffering, same thing with cancer, but they could be still walking around...so the doctor asks them, do you want me to kill you? How in your mind does that work

Dont you think that some people that are commiting suicide may choose a different option if they are in a different state of mind at times though? Its not so black and white. There are many people that attempt as a cry for help. There are some that want to succeed and then get counseling and realize that it wsnt the right choice. Its taboo because there are so many grey areas concerning the subject.
Sucide in my opinion is also a very selfish act on the part of the person commiting it, the family is the one that suffers in the end especially if there is children involved.

I think Reaver said it well.. what about the people that love us? Ive had some down times in my life, and the THOUGHT has cross my mind... but then I think about my family, and everyone who loves me... I could never be so selfish, no matter how bad it got. Everyone has the right... its not illegal.

My ex boyfriend commited suicide...he was only about 15 years old... but still. Thats such a shame... he had his whole life ahead of him. His parents were really rough on him, they were REALLY strict. But now, he could be out on his own... and to think that he ended it so early... it just sucks.
