Someone's playing on musical instruments ?

Was forced to take piano lessons when about 10 years old. Hated it. Lasted about 6 months

Then in 5th grade you had to try an instrument. I tried the coronet and was beyond terrible. We had the option to buy the instrument and continue with the class. Took it back

Then I used my voice and was in choir the rest of K-12

After graduating I bought a cheap electric guitar and figured out how to hook it up to my stereo. Moved on from that to a couple of quality amps and guitars. Fender Les Paul electric circa 1976, Ovation electric accoustic circa 1985, and a Fender Bass circa 2008.

Oh and I can not play guitar either worth a damn but a couple of beers and a little pot and I don't give a shit

Fact........ I am gonna start lessons next saturday though to see if I can learn to make the most of my limited skills.

If that fails then I am gonna buy an electric drum kit. I should have gone with drums anyway but parents did not want me to.

Instead I knew I was good with my lips and tongue and could blow for a decent amount of time ... and a clarinetist was where I went with it. Sort of a calling as it were....... :cool

I learnt piano for 3 years. Was really good at the theory, terrible at the actual playing as I hated practicing!

Also learnt Sax for 2 years, which I was pretty good at and enjoyed but I felt like a loser carrying it to and from school so quit (yay for being a dumb teenager)

We had a UK corps come over last summer and compete in our circuit. The Kidsgrove Scouts. I thought they were very good.

Well we went to a Regonal Competition and got badly beaten :/ But it was an eye opener if anything and a rum Corp competeing against full bands isn't good but we did nick a few ideas

I was in Band 5th thru 11th grade. Played trombone pretty well, though I'm not sure I could even make a sound on it today. Now they have all kinds of brass instruments for marching band. Do they even use trombones anymore?

Of course you learn it as a separate instrument. My point is a piano player can't pick up a violin and play it without major transposing.

I think there's some major transposing for the bass too. Let's face it, most guitar players suck at rhythm. Not to mention the weight of the strings.

My daughter played violin in junior high but switched to bass in high school. Upright bass but still pretty similar

Then she played brass instruments in the band. She could play just about anything.

I bought a bass a year ago and did not not find it all that different. But then I just make noise

I play on a electric guitar for about two years now. Not in a band tho, I just like to sit in the evening and chill out playing some of my favorite tunes.

Heck yes they still use trombones! They are the heart and soul of the band! That is my completely unbiased opinion of course.

My best friend in high school could play any reed instrument, single or double. He would be on the alto sax then pick up an oboe and effortlessly play a solo. Bassoons, clarinets, you name it. His parents were kind enough to take me in as a foster child for a year. Imagine my surprise when I found out that he's also an accomplished pianist. I haven't seen him since about 1980, but he was majoring in music in college, working as a DJ at a local radio station, and playing keyboards in a local band.
