We only had one French Horn in our band. Now that I think of it.... he played so bad... they made him sit in the third chair anyway.

Clarinet was the first real instrument I ever played in a band. I'd already been banging on an old guitar at around 3rd grade, but my school had a great music program and I fell for the clarinet immediately. I played in the band until I left that school to go to jr high and I never played it again after that.

Prior to the clarinet I took Violin lessons. That lasted two weeks. I suppose I didn't like anything that I had to rest my chin on, and deal with perfect posture techniques and all that at the same time.
I played drums for many years. Left it alone for quite a while and then bought a set about 10 years ago with the intentions of starting a band. I was living in a small town at the time and I couldn't get enough folks my age to commit nor did they wanna play " swing " so packed I it in again. I miss it and wish I still had a set to beat the hell out of but such is life.

I know how to play the flute.
In middle school I played the trumpet and I sucked at it. In high school I took up trombone and not only was I amazing (first chair), but I got to sit next to the guy I liked at the time as well. So everything worked out in the end.
I still have the trombone somewhere. Haven't played in ages though.

Did you ever try blowing into it instead? Apparently that's supposed to work.

But, yeah, I picked up bass in a few hours
I played viola for 10ish years. I plan on starting again in the fall at school.
Trombone for three years.
I taught myself how to play the piano, violin, and cello. I've messed around on the guitar and a LITTLE bit on the bass.
I still own a viola, and a pretty shitty acoustic guitar.

What? It's true.
Instead I knew I was good with my lips and tongue and could blow for a decent amount of time ... and a clarinetist was where I went with it. Sort of a calling as it were....... :cool
