This is using a technique called masking in the darkroom. It is hard to do. This is NOT done with Photoshop, but I realize it would be way easier in photoshop.

But that's not the point of my "art." My art is photography, not digital photography :)

And i am very new to it, so be kind.

Forgive the blurry images - they were already matted when I scanned them on my 1990's scanner.

ps - they scanned really really dark :(

That's really great! I especially like the above one. It might be just be, but somehow I feel it would look great as an album cover of a music CD.. And the second image could be used as the back of that album, where the songs and all that are listed.

lol - thanks!

I get that a lot which is why I am lol'ing.

A lot of my photos look like they could be album covers, so we took a photo of all my roommates, and we are going to blow it up and make our own titles and song track titles and make the photo look like albums and then put them up on our wall in the living room.

We are dorks. :)

Thanks tom!

My daughter did a bunch of B&W photography in a course in college. Definitely an art to do well with it. Yours look very good.

Thank you Fred!

and yes it is hard to get appreciation for B&W photography that is not digital.

It takes a LOT of work, and people just don't realize how much.

I made my own film, took it on my film camera, developed my own film, bought my paper, adjusted the print quality and made my prints with paper and chemicals...NO computer...NO digital...just hard work and chemicals in trays in a dark room....it takes hours and hours for just one print.

That was part of my daughter's photography course. She was able to borrow a good quality camera from a friend of hers. The cost of chemicals & paper were a shock for me. We gave her friend a gift certificate to a restaurant after she finished the course.

I have lent out my camera to a few people, but I am scared every time - that's my baby!

Oh his camera was very expensive. I was so afraid my daughter was going to break it. I breathed a sigh of relief when the course was over.

Hint, you should take a picture of them with a digital camera and then upload and post them that way. As well as email me a copy!!!

I just love the composition...

In my ART AP class they say it's plagirism if it looks exactly alike the original, even if you use a different medium. But they also said that if you just get some 'inspiration' from it, or just use part of it, it's not :D

But I geuss I will respect you're wishes. *Sad Face*

I would utmost appreciate it if you do respect my wishes.

And no offense to your AP art class, but it is high school.

In the art world it would be plagiarism. So don't. Everyone has influences, but copying my image is not the same as being influenced by it.

That and it would make me sad. It was my idea and my hard work.

In fact now I have paranoid thoughts of you doing it anyways and so it makes me want to take it down. :(

Hey, I told you I would and I will. Please trust me.

ok I will.

and bri - I don't say this just for my benefit, but for yours:

your ideas would probably be better than mine anyways. I have seen your art and it has a unique voice. Don't mess that up by copying some one else's work.

Even if you are idea-less, start doodling and whatever it leads to will be better and more original than something you make by copying.

That is how artists develop their vision, their concept.
