125,000 people were investigated by the Spanish Inquisition, between 3,000 to 5,000 were executed over 350 years. Pol Pot killed 1.7 million in 4 years. Do the math....

Ooooh no ya dont,...this is a religious thread...don't go bringing anything into it that involves reason or logic like math :cool

This thread sounds like it is more about atheists than religion so math is OK....it's honesty that has to be left out. Books written by atheists like Phil Zuckerman are full of lies. The whole New Atheist movement is based on lies. That's why Zuckerman mentions Denmark but pretty much ignores China and North Korea. It doesn't surprise me that there is much ignorance about history given the numerous books written by atheists recently. Rubes buy these books and then parrot the garbage that is written in them.

Wars are complex and probably difficult to pin on a single cause. Anyway, Zuckerman makes an astute distinction between organic atheism and atheism forced on the people by a tyrant. He said the second form has always caused suffering. But it is a different matter with organic atheism, that is atheism freely chosen by the people. Denmark is proof that societies with a large organic atheist majority can be quite peaceful.
In a great many dictatorships where atheism is forced religion is just driven underground, but it's there.

And it's hardly worth debating whether religion has been at the root of many wars. Of course it has. Arguably we're still fighting the Crusades to this day. But religion, like any other system of belief can get twisted into justification for a struggle for power, and you're simply not going to see humans behaving any better in religion's absence.

But I have to say that many people I admire gave up a lot to help those who were cleaning up after the 9/11 attacks, to help victims of Katrina and similar things because they believed God called them to do it, and didn't go out to those places to "push" God. They did show God in my opinion by example, but these are people who don't want recognition or reward for their efforts. For all the ones who twist religion around, there are these kinds of people too, throughout history.

Back to the OP, I hardly believe that Denmark is a "organic atheist" country. There's a huge difference between people who keep their faith to themselves as a matter of cultural norm and a society that's atheist. The conclusion simply doesn't follow that because they don't share what they believe they have none. It's irresponsible to draw that conclusion without proof of what the actual belief makeup of Danes actually is.

In most work environments I've been in people don't really talk about religion, even here in the Bible Belt. But I can tell you that's not the case outside of work. Now I will say that doesn't carry over here in every line of work, or school, we definitely have some boundary-challenged religious nuts here. I wish they did follow the Danes in keeping it at home.

True. Atheists create lies to try and convince themselves they are right. Choosing data that best fits the desired results.

There are lies alright. Just look at what Zuckerman is saying here in regard to "forced atheism" by a tyrant. He is saying one person forced an entire nation to be atheist. That is complete nonsense. Not just a few people but the majority of people had to go along with the atheist tyrant. Stalin had to have many loyal followers to carry out the democide of millions. Zuckerman's notion of "organic" and "forced" atheism is a big lie.

One can argue that the bible itself has been used to create a forced religiosity, and that the parables written have been misconstrued to represent facts. But I am moving offtopic.

I believe that religion/belief is a deeply personal thing. I mistrust anyone that shouts the attributes of any product (religion or snake oil) from the rooftops.

One could argue anything but history shows for fact what happens when atheists control a government. It ain't pretty.

Yea. yea, yea. To every point there is a counter point. You say this atheist fucks animals, I say that Priest fucks little boys. The OP wasn't about that. It was about whether or not people should keep their fucking mouths shut when it comes to their brand of religion, or religion in general. Hence, my comment on my personal thought that MY religion or lack of, is just that. Personal.

The OP is about Society without God and in SOCIETY where you say "Priest fucks little boys" isn't as common as atheists fuck animals AND little boys. The ATHEIST ran group NAMBLA is pushing for legalizing "fucking little boys". Huge difference there. It looks like society is better off with God.

I hear Atheists also sacrifice virgins. Not to God, because that would be silly, but just to do it.

So let me get this straight. It doesn't bother you that in the 20th century atheist regimes were brutally oppressive and slaughtered millions but you have a problem with someone that would want to talk to you about Jesus....Typical atheist hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy? I think that is more than likely head up ass syndrome.
