BB, StanJon has a modern religious viewpoint. i.e. a belief structure tailored to his own accommodation. To be used to rationalize the good and bad things in his life.

Well I respect and admire that steadfast belief system.

However, I would much rather people just be honest, and admit there's holes, and we can all just get along.

I simply cannot imagine some of the most intelligent minds gathering to interpret the possible code behind a book...And an hour later, a mathematician says

"Hey......There's pages missing in this thing"

and the others telling him "You're stupid....We knew you wouldn't understand":p

Keep in mind, you can believe in something, and have questions at the same time. In fact I think it's how we were designed, made, bred....whatever you be;lieve

It's human nature to question. I am pretty sure that's how the wheel and fire was found..

There is no loopholes in the bible Badboy. I for one believe that the bible is without flaw or contradiction. If we don't understand something we must admit our lack of understanding rather than being unorthodox.

Daniel, where can i find your post about compare and contrast?

then you really haven't read it. There are two creation stories, for instance.

The Bible has been edited many times over history by self serving religious leaders. The purpose being to instill fear and submission into the masses.

The Council of Constantinople being just one instance.

The assertion that Jesus was perfect is shot all to hell by the Bible itself when it says "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". All. Not "All but Jesus". ALL. Therefore, this includes Jesus. Some would argue that Jesus is a part of the Holy Trinity (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) and is therefore a part of God, and therefore inherently excluded from this statement. However, God supposedly created all of us in his image and as parts of him. By that same logic, as we would then all be parts of God, we would all be excluded from this. Not to mention that Jesus was described as human for his life on Earth, and didn't become a part of the Holy Trinity until after his supposed death and resurrection. Therefore, his life on Earth was before the perfection that has been ascribed to him.

As for the Bible thing, to scratch the surface, let's look at the following:

2 Kings 8:26 says "Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign..."
2 Chronicles 22:2 says "Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign..."

2 Samuel 6:23 says "Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death"
2 Samuel 21:8 says "But the king took...the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul"

2 Samuel 8:3-4 says "David smote also Hadadezer...and took from him...seven hundred horsemen..."
1 Chronicles 18:3-4 says "David smote Hadarezer...and took from him...seven thousand horsemen..."

1 Kings 4:26 says "And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots..."
2 Chronicles 9:25 says "And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots..."

2 Kings 25:8 says "And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month...Nebuzaradan...came...unto Jerusalem"
Jeremiah 52:12 says "...in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month...came Nebuzaradan...into Jerusalem"

1 Samuel 31:4-6 says "...Saul took a sword and fell upon it. And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead and...died with him. So Saul died..."
2 Samuel 21:12 says "...the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa."

Gen 2:17 says "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day thou eastest thereof thou shalt surely die [note: it doesn't say 'spiritual' death]
Gen 5:5 says "And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died."

Matt 1:16 says, "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus..."
Luke 3:23 says "And Jesus...the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli"

James 1:13 says "..for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man."
Gen 22:1 says "And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham..."

Gen 6:20 says "Of fowls after their kind and of cattle [etc.]...two of every sort shall come unto thee..."
Gen 7:2,3 says "Of every clean beast thou shall take to thee by sevens...Of fowls also of the air by sevens..."

Luke23:46: "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."
John 19:30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

Gen 32:30 states "...for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."
John 1:18 states, "No man hath seen God at any time..."

I think I have asked this question before, and of course it has never gotten answered.

What if....Now don't smite me...But what if, the stories in the bible were meant to be allegorical?

I mean is it sort of possible that this book, was intended to be more of a general lesson on life, or perhaps a fable with a strange moral at the end....Rather than the foundation of thousands of years worth of the bloodshed and chicanery..

It has always struck me as peculiar that the lesson of Christ is to forgive, to love your brother...

But somehow this is being used to support the slayings of millions over the centuries

I think there should be a test at the end....And more pictures and pie charts

^^Totally. HAS to be a metaphor. Very much in the same vein as when we tell children to behave or Santa won't bring any presents at Christmas. The concept of God/Jesus was created to basically scare people into behaving as the majority (or the ruling minority) saw fit at the time. Unfortunately, people have taken it literally and haven't adapted this outdated rulebook to keep up with modern ethics and morals and indeed standards.

And to me, there's nothing wrong with that....Nothing at all

It is perfectly okay, and normal to follow metaphor, to use it in our lives

Exactly. I agree.

What I disagree with is the deliberate fabrication that has gone on for centuries trying to mislead people into thinking that what is actually a metaphor is in fact reality and history. For thousands of years, freedom of choice has been systematically taken away from millions upon millions of people. And for what reason?

Jesus had two natures. He was both divine and human. Could you quote the scriptures to back your argument, Failed?
