Um........ if someone believes in Santa when they start high school they deserve to feel stupid.
Should parents tell their kids the truth about Santa?

Yeah I know, that's why I said they should be told by the time they go there.
I think it's okay either way. Some people want to raise their children one way, and some want to raise it another. There's no right or wrong answer. I always thought it was a fun thing growing up believing in Santa. Even when I got too old and I knew better, I kept it on because I had a little brother. And I think my parents liked playing Santa. Even when my brother and I were far too old to understand, my parents still addressed one or two gifts to us from Santa. I don't see it as harmful lying, but some people do. And if they want to tell their children there's no Santa, then it's not my place to judge them for that. As someone else said, to each their own. 
If Abbey does get to an age where she's questioning whether or not he exists, I will most likely give her the honest answer.

I just asked my 24 year old daughter about it. She said she did not feel anything like resentment when she learned about Santa. My wife talked about how much fun we had being Santa. My daughter said she looks forward to playing Santa for her kids.
I think that's wise. When her friends start telling her Santa's not real, if you don't tell her the truth at that point then she might feel betrayed when she finds out. She might not either but why take the chance.

There is nothing worse, than people who don't have children, telling those of us who do, how lying to our children about Santa, is damaging or causes mistrust. GET OVER YOURSELVES. Shit. :thumbdown
All the kids care about is that the presents keep coming. Santa, or no Santa... trust me.

I think kids should know and we taught meaning of Christmas. To me Santa is just our way of teaching our kids in ways they can understand about Christmas and I started telling my son that contrary to how TV ads its not all about presents and gifts.. Its about families, caring and letting people you know think about them.
Whatever others wants to believe is fine with me.. That's my belief and how I deal with things and its worked out great. My kids don't expect Santa to be as they make him to be on TV but still have the dreams most kids do.. Yes at a young age the thought of him in the North Pole is there but not because Dad tell them.. I will not steal away their innocence or their imagination or right to believe.. But just as there is such a thing as Christmas Spirit so it is passed by the thought of Santa and my kids are shown that Santa is not just a man that buys and spends millions on toys each year..

:clap:clap I know i don't have kids but I don't think believing in santa is wrong. I think it's funny how a few that are saying it is don't have kids.
Santa isn't a 20th century invention. he predates television, he predates commecialism, his origins predate Christ for freaks sake....
I explained to my kids, as soon as they could understand, that Santa was a more of a Spirit then a person as such as that if they want to believe he lives in the North Pole, so be it, but Saint Nicolas ( Santa ) was someone who embodies what Christmas is all about and that although Christmas Present are what stories are toild about him that Families and Love are even more important. We talk about how in the old days there were no WalMarts and BestBuys to get gifts and that people would hand make something for each other if they could. That the important thing in life was to spend time with Family and friends and to remind them that we cared and loved them.
That spirit will never die..
The Easter Bunny and Tooth Ferry are totally different stories..

Get over myself? That's rich. All I did was state my own personal opinion, I said it's not that big a deal anyway and it's up to you what you do about it.
It's the people getting all worked up because they cant hack someone having a different opinion about the most minor of things who need to get over themself.
Wait a minute.... I specifically remember looking out my bedroom window Christmas Eve, up in the sky, and seeing Santa on his sleigh being pulled by all the reindeers. I was about 4 or 5. He's REAL you bunch of disbelievers.
PBBB is still sacked out but when she gets up I'll ask her what she thinks of PS & I lying to her all those 6 years about Santa. If I recall correctly, she didn't feel we betrayed her trust by adding a little magic to her life then by 'lying' about Santa. Or the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy. But I'll get it straight from the kids' mouth in awhile.
Nothing wrong in believing in a little Majic now and then.
We teach our children to believe in an invisible man in the clouds that knows all and sees all.
Santa ain't that much more of a stretch. He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake. Hello? At least Santa doesn't send you to Hell if you've been bad this year. He just gives you coal.
