Should Circumcision Be Banned?

My son is uncut, and will remain such until he wants it cut, or he can't keep it clean on his own once I stop doing it for him (and becomes infected)

There's no reason for it, it doesn't look wrong, or out of place there. It's just as clean as a cut-penis, if you teach them how to clean it.

Uncut, the bundle of nerves along the head of his penis remains intact. he'll thank me later when his sex life is awesome

That is exactly what this thread is about, CHOICE, I wasn't really asking if you would HAVE your child circumcised

Actually it's about your desire to choose for someone else. Some decisions parents need to make for their children. This is not one of them. It is an unnecessary and irreversible procedure.

One mother in this thread said her baby went to sleep afterward so it must not have hurt. Here is something I found on AskDrSears.

Yes, it hurts. The skin of the penis of a newborn baby has pain receptors completely sensitive to clamping and cutting. The myth that newborns do not feel pain came from the observation that newborns sometimes withdraw into a deep sleep toward the end of the operation. This does not mean that they do not feel pain. Falling into a deep sleep is a retreat mechanism, a withdrawal reaction as a consequence of overwhelming pain. Not only does circumcision cause pain in the penis, the newborns over all physiology is upset. New research shows that during unanaesthetized circumcision, stress hormones rise, the heart rate speeds, and valuable blood oxygen diminishes. Babies should never be subjected to the shock of unanaesthetized circumcision.

It's a moral question. So it's not a question of true or false. It's a question of good or bad. That is, it's a subjective question, not an objective one. So to be clear... it's my opinion that it is bad for parents to subject their children to unnecessary surgical procedures. When the child is old enough to decide for himself and wants an unnecessary procedure done then I'm fine with it.

Of course they don't, It is the Parents who stand up for their own children, and it is up to the parents to make life decisions for them, and it's not my place, or yours, or anyone else's to tell a person how to raise their own child.
