As I said, I personally blame myself for caring what others think, but there's no denying the media has completely distorted the human view of beauty. I mean, people naturally compare themselves to others, but when those others are practically computer generated, how could any compete with such flawlessness?

Insecurity in one's body image is a human development step. It's mostly reserved for teenagers!! (poor souls) Despite beauty or lack thereof, it seems inevitable that most young people struggle with it. But isn't it funny that some never recover? Look at all the plastic surgery industry!!! That's where all the "old" people go.

I too suffered from being self conscious. My direct family was overly scrutinizing. But I'm a very supportive parent, and even my own kids are self-consious. My husband and his mom are very self-conscious but it isn't about body image, it's about fear of upsetting others.

No matter how you look at it, it's seems to be present in everyone except maybe for the autistic. It would be great if humans could figure out some way to make it useful.
