Here in Arkansas it is a law that you cannot smoke in your car with children under 60 pounds, or younger than 6 yrs old.

Don't do this, don't do that, don't do the other. Hell, just now we won't be able to do anything. People who don't do something always don't want somebody else doing what they not doing or used to do themselves. Don't mind they might be doing something worse.

As you all know, the Tobacco Industry is heinous, yes heinous. While making all those denials, they knew as far back in the 50's that nicotine is addictive and even added it and other drugs to make cancer sticks more addictive. They need to get their pants sued off. I am still amazed with what everyone knows about cigarettes today, that teenagers are still drawn to smoke.

My Dad smoked in the house and in the car for as long as I can remember,. 2 packs a day. I'm not aware of any ill health affects it had on me. I'm not saying it's not potentially harmful, just my experience.

I didn't start smoking until I was in my twenties. I now have a 2 year old. I don't smoke in the house or in the car with him.

I reserve judgement of others who smoke in the home or in the car with kids. Yes, I agree it's probably not the best thing. Just like I agree that kids on bicycles should wear helmets or kids shouldn't watch TV until they are at least two years old.

There's all sorts of things that other parents do that I don't agree with. That doesn't necessarily make them bad parents. Everyone makes poor choices from time to time.

I guess I would feel a duty to my child to quit smoking. It just seems so unnecessary to me. I wouldn't want my children growing up thinking smoking is sensible, just because me, or their mother do so. I'm not a smoker though.

It's not sensible, being honest and open with your kids about it is the best way though, since when did any of us respect what our parents said was right, as kids?

I've never had any complaints, pretty sure I haven't missed out in relationships because of it, government health propaganda, nothing more.

Most people that don't smoke do not hang out with smokers, but I don't think it is a conscious thing though. I do not avoid people that smoke now that I don't, but I've come to realize that I don't have any friends that smoke anymore. Just kind of works out that way for many. It is mostly the smokers that back off from the nonsmokers though, not the other way around.

Addiction is addiction. And people, especially kids, will continue to fill the void with whatever.

:thumbup Very true. We are all human. We aren't perfect. Extend the same compassion to others that you'd want shown to you.

I am a smoker (albeit a casual one) and hang out w/ several non-smokers. I also don't smoke in my car...never have, and I've had it a year and a half now. I don't smoke in V's car, either, even though she says I can. She doesn't smoke, so I'm not gonna smoke up her car.

I agree that parents shouldn't smoke in a car w/ children in it...that cigarette can wait.

When I see people smoking around kids, I want to take the cigarette and shove it up their nose. People who smoke in public provoke a similar reaction but I only want to yell at them and stomp on their cigarettes.

Ah, it depends what you class public, over here we can't smoke them in any enclosed space, which ok fair enough - but I still like to have a few ciggies outside if possible.

No it is not completely true. It is statistically true.

The old saying (don't remember it word for word) that children learn by watching their parents actions/behaviors is very true.

It makes no sense to a child when a parent says 'dont' lie', yet watch their parents lie all the time. 'Don't do drugs, they are bad for you', yet the child knows their parents do drugs.

Aww yeah, I remember the saying ... 'Practice what you preach'. That old saying has been around a long time for good reason ... it's true.
