how come this despicable governor has not jumped at the chance?

Hell, just look at (r) alone, forget about the rest.

With this trigger in place, they can go into any town or municipality and do whatever they want.

that only triggers a review

I knew you would single that out though

I understand your fear. I don't see it happening. There are too many other hoops to jump thru even if a review is called for. Not the least being public backlash. The recall mongers would be out in droves.

What don't you understand about this?

They can appoint ANYONE to do just about ANYTHING to your county without you having one word to say on it.
They can eliminate any collective bargaining agreements, dissolve pensions, fire anyone they want and they can do it without any just cause.
Why the hell do you vote for local officials if they can be summarily dismissed by some appointed cronies of the governor?

You would rather have the state just walk in and tell you and your community how to conduct business? AND YOUR OPINION WILL NOT MATTER. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN 100% REMOVED FROM THE PROCESS.

Hell, why do you even vote? Why not have the governor just tell your community how it's going to be and who's going to run the show? He can appoint any corporate cronies to just take over...

Let me try this another way.

What would you think if the exact same thing was done by the Federal government when it comes to state budgets?

Would you be saying the same thing? And how is this any different from any larger government coming in and taking over a smaller one...? State takes over city or federal takes over state.

Obviously if Allen does not like the state of affairs, he is very willing to turn over control to a dictator if he thinks the dictator will get him where he wants to go. You know dictators are well respected around the world.

You answer me first Tim

I asked why they have not taken over Detroit

I truly believe that this is just a testing ground.

Stage 1 is to get it passed in the middle of the night
Stage 2 is to test it out on some small municipalities to gauge public reaction and adjust approach if needed.

But Detroit falls well within the range of what they are targeting. Just because they haven't declared martial law yet doesn't prove anything.

Now answer my question. Do you think it's ok for the federal government to do this to states that are running a deficit?

How the hell could the Federal government hold the States responsible for something they can't even manage to do?

Which bears the question... What makes the governor think he can take cities over when he can't even balance the state budget?

Methinks someone is under the impression that the only way to communicate is to argue.

That's baseless, but when someone objects to something they agree with a bit later, one starts to wonder what for?
Kind of the theme in these threads, sometimes everyone is saying the same thing but they want to object anyway.

It's not baseless at all, because I didn't object to anything Tim said in the post I quoted, except that it was incomplete. You needed something to post so you posted it. Job done. Let's get back to the subject.

You are projecting and assuming the worst.

If the shit hit the fan that is what elections are for.

As to your question it is apples and oranges. But the feds already control the states by the way they mandate things in order for the states to get money.

you show your ignorance here Tim

MI has a balanced budget. He got the budget approved in the first couple months in office. For the last umpteen years they went to the very last second or overtime to pass a budget. Also in the past they used smoke and mirrors and one time gimmicks. Finally we have a fiscally realistic and responsible budget. It even includes a 2nd year and it is not based on phony expectations as far as revenue.

Oh and MI has a balanced budget amendment. Would you approve of the feds having the same? With safeguards to allow for emergency expenditures.

meanwhile I don't see you guys having commented on how Obama on his own mandated that insurance companies expand their coverage to require health insurance plans to cover all government-approved contraceptives for women, without co-payments or other charges. That is an absurd abuse of power regardless of whether it is a good idea.

Then we have him deciding to ignore immigration laws.
The White House announced that the U.S. government will immediately halt the deportation of undocumented immigrants that do not have criminal records or pose a security risk to the United States on a case-by-case basis.

WTF is with that? Just make up the rules as you go?

you mean like the one Obama is on?

What power is Obama grabbing?

In contrast every Republican State Legislature as soon as achieving a majority recently has done nothing to correct immediate budget problem instead focusing on how to undermine their perceived enemies. That is grabbing power.
