Richard Dawkins Versus Homophobic Christians

And you find this fall down laughing funny? Curious, but not surprising.

I was commenting on the link doombug posted here.

In that case...

It was inappropriate for a stranger to invite Rebecca Watson to his hotel room for a cup of coffee. Someone who is willing to break that social norm is unpredictable. Being stuck in an elevator with an unpredictable man would be quite unsettling. Watson has my sympathy. But using this as an example of "blatant misogyny" seems extreme.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the sparring between PZ Myers, Watson and Dawkins is mainly an attempt to get media attention.

... it sounds forward, but with a different woman, he could have gotten lucky. ;)

It's interesting to talk about. It does seem a little weird that she was uneasy but the guy in the elevator could have came across creepy. I think she has every right to her opinion. Dawkins seems to be in the habit of telling people their opinion doesn't matter....how arrogant.

She has every right to her opinion. But I agree with Dawkins. That was not an example of "blatant misogyny". In this particular example I side with Dawkins. But I'm actually a bigger fan of Rebecca Watson that Richard Dawkins. I think Rebecca over reacted. Nobody's perfect.

I don't know if she over reacted because I wasn't in the elevator and neither was Richard Dawkins. If what happened creeped Rebecca out then she has every right to talk about it. She didn't call for an end to sex or say that guys should be thrown in jail for hitting on a woman. Dawkins over reacted.

She didn't over react by talking about it. The invitation was inappropriate and she is correct to point that out. She over reacted by using it as an example of "blatant misogyny". It wasn't.

I thought she was saying Dawkins comments were misogyny. He basically said that since muslim women were treated so badly that feminists should complain at all. He said Rebecca should "stop whining and grow a thicker skin." I don't see how he can make such a call since he wasn't in the elevator. Only the woman knows for sure how this guy was coming across and it creeped her out.

I agree with you there. I think Watson had a legitimate complaint about the man in the elevator. I think Dawkins should have shown her some sympathy. But I don't think misogyny was involved on anyone's part here. I think the guy in the elevator had poor social skills. And I think Watson and Dawkins are media whores. ;)

Media whores....I agree on that.
