Just a few thoughts.

It’s easier to believe in a magical super-being either just popping into existence or always existing than it is to believe that creatures changed & evolved over three & a half billion years into our current flora & fauna.

Why would you want to join a group that does not want you as a member? If you are gay & the current religious groups don’t want you – start your own, “The Church Of People Who Love God & Each Other”. It has worked for many other people up to now, John Smith, King Henry VIII, L Ron Hubbard… etc

If you call your invisible friend Harvey, or Frank, you will be locked up in a padded cell, but if you call him God, people will sing along with you on Sundays & help you to become President of the country.

The Catholic Church is the richest organization in the world, making much of it’s money through slavery, piracy, theft & not to forget taking the land & holdings of all the people that were tortured during the Inquisitions & yet we give them tax breaks. The Mafia gets most of its money in similar ways & we don’t give them tax breaks.

No religious organization in the world that believes in God or Gods can prove their claims in a court of law & yet they are some of the most powerful organizations on the planet.

God doesn’t seem to give a shit about the two million children currently dying of AIDS/HIV in Africa, but he’s only too happy to bless the food you are about to eat & help Johnny through tomorrow’s pop quiz.

This is kind of an outright bashing of religion. While I don't follow any certain religion there are religions that are out there to benefit mankind and do no harm unto others. I'm not going to hate anyone religion based on extremists. You can have religious views and have common sense. The Bible is just a book. What I hate is those who take the "Book of God" for every word.

If you believe the world was created in 7 days I feel sorry for you. Fossil findings and evolution say other wise. But is evolution 100% correct? I'm sure even scientists don't know for sure. They can't even agree how the universe began or how the dinosaurs died.

I guess that in some ways you could say that this is bashing of religion. For the past two thousand years if you said anything that disagreed with the accepted doctrine of most religions you would have been stoned to death, locked in a cellar until you died, tortured until you recanted or just plain killed outright.

It's only been in th last hundred or so years that Atheists have been able to make statements like this & yet you will be told things like you are bashing religion, or that you have no respect for religion. So I suppose that it is about time we have been able to say whatever we want.

As I have stated previously, "I will show christians the same amount of respect that they have historically shown atheists. Oh yeah that's right we are not allowed to kill you!"

There's good and there's bad in religion. There's crooks and phony evangelists collecting in God's name but churches do a lot of charitable things too and provide programs for kids.

Like anything else, you take the bad with the good.

Dont knock all religion, in the last national census in the UK, the 5th most popular religion that people claimed to be, including none, was Jedi Knight.:D

Maybe its just me but this doesn't seem good enough, especially not for an organisation that claims love & peace & takes a heap of money from the government. It seems to me that organisations that cover up or allow child abuse, fraud or any of the other crimes that are taking place now, should be held responsible for their actions & so should their members.

You can bet if it was the Hell's Angels Bikie gang, the cops would be all over it but mention that it's a religious group & suddenly everyone pulls back or "treads carefully".

The same thing happened here in Australia, at the last Census over 30,000 people wrote in Jedi on the form.

This statement isn't even close to being true. I'm not a catholic, and I don't belong to any organized religion. And I still think your post is totally full of biased bullshit.

maybe it is true

this guy is anti catholic but I have heard many times it is the wealthiest institution on earth. Might explain how they could get away with having so many pedophiles leading their churches. Money can sometimes does that kind of stuff.

World's Biggest Stock Broker

The Catholic Church, therefore, once all her assets have been put together, is the most formidable stockbroker in the world. The 'Wall Street Journal' said that the Vatican's financial deals in the U.S. alone were so big that very often it sold or bought gold in lots of a million or more dollars at one time.
Therefore, the Vatican was, and still is, the most redoubtable wealth accumulator and property owner in existence. No one knows for certain how much the Catholic Church was, or is worth in terms of dollars and other currencies, not even the pope himself.
That is the true situation borne out by a Vatican official who, when asked to make a guess at the Vatican's wealth today, replied very tellingly, "Only God knows."

I guess the question I would ask, is why non-believers can be so abashedly public about how wrong believers are about being so abashedly public about believeing...

In other words, who is either side trying to convince, me or themselves?

Sorry that was supposed to be 'one of the richest' organisations in the world (but it seems from the post above that it was probably correct) & yes you are correct it is full of bias against not only the Catholic church but any & all religions.

I do not dislike the Catholics any more, or less, than I dislike all religions. As I have stated on another thread - religion is mankinds worst invention ever.

Perhaps you could llok at the Catholic Church & see that in many ways they are the easiest to pick on. It's really hard to believe that they are doing all that good for the poor & other needy, when they have all that cash & property & gold plated taps. :)

Why are we allowing ignorant & disgracefully misinformed organisations to run our lives & tell us what to think? That is the point. We've seen what Religious rule has done to the world, it's time that atheists took over & see if we can possibly do any worse... I doubt it.

They don't run anyones lives unless they allow it;)

I go to church.....They don't run my life.....Catholics I don't understand.....Whole different story.

My point is....Who really cares? You don't believe, then ignore it. I thin kboth sides make such a big deal out of it because they are both afraid they might be wrong...

I cold care less what anyone thinks about it, one side or the other. Believeing is a choice

How about one of the richest (if not the richest) organized religions in the world? Is that disputable? Let me add that if you become rich pushing the "word of God", by definition you are corrupt.

Seriously! Why can't we all just recognize other people's right to choose for themselves?

I'll give you one of the wealthiest religions - even wealthiest religion. As far as their practices with regard to earning methods, that's another story that I can't really comment on.

But there are lots of peaceful, charitable people involved in religion. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Religion is not the only place where they cover for their own, you 'd be hard pressed to find cops, lawyers and doctors who will testify against each other too.

And lots of other crooks outside of religous circles taking money from the government as well. Welcome to America.

Let me remind you that Catholics are not Christians. They call themselves Christians, but their actions (as you and others have explained in this thread) are far from their words. Their beliefs are not of the Bible or of Jesus, so I do not see how they can be Christians. They are corrupt in so many ways. Not trying to say that true Christians are perfect, but any true Christian will try their best to not harm others, not steal, not torture others for their beliefs, etc.

All for now. Though I do agree with you that it is excellent today that everyone can voice their opinion without fear of retribution (well, mostly), and I have no problem for you voicing yours. :thumbup
