But Darrell was talking about video STORES... so I assumed we were talking about buying...

*chalks it up to miscommunication, rather than being slow*

I was thinking of rental stores. Brain fart I guess!

I remember I used to rent games a lot. My parents insisted that I rent a video game before I bought it so that I could see if I liked it or not. It's a good idea on paper but didn't quite satisfy my need for the instant gratification that buying new video game bought.

Our local rental place was such a focal point that the manager was a co-host on one of the radio channels, just to advertise lol.

I'm sure the decline of rental places has something to do with the price. Didn't Blockbuster cost $5.99 a rental? I know that they're a business and it's still cheaper than buying a brand new movie, but that's still pretty darn expensive. I only went there a few times when I had a gift card for it.

Yeah it used to cost me £4 or £5 to rent a movie for 2 nights, similar for a game.
Whereas you could just buy the fucking thing new and return it within a week and get a full refund... Easy choice.
Or just selling it within a few months wouldn't cost you much more than what it would have cost to rent.

;) Definitely a miscommunication because I believe he was referring to going into places like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Video Gallery and such where you can pick up a case and look at the movie BEFORE you rent it versus Redbox where all you have is a computer touch screen. :dunno

I used to stand in line to rent VHS's, then DVDs. I haven't darkened the door of a rental store since Redbox started market testing in Las Vegas years ago. Now I don't even have cable.

Netflix, baby! All the way. Now I see going to Redbox as a splurge.

Am I cheap? :blush
