This morning my Grandpa passed away from cancer, and rather than pick up the phone, and call, my Step Mom sent me a text message that said:

"Your Grandpa passed away. Headed there now."

WHO THE FUCK TELLS SOMEONE A FAMILY MEMBER DIED VIA TEXT MESSAGE?

Thanks Jeremy, but I'm fine. Bill and I have never had a relationship, my parents made the mistake of telling me early in my life that he suggested I be aborted while my Mom was pregnant, he's pretty much been dead to me since then. I just wonder why someone would think that is an appropriate means of notifying family members of deaths.

Well hell. That's a whole different ball of wax then. But like you say..., in a TEXT? Can she be any LESS personal.. wow....

Totally, which is why the purpose of my thread was not "My grandpa died RIP" it was more about the fact, who the fuck sends death notifications via text message? That just baffles me. Either way, it always sucks to lose family members, regardless of your relationship, because there is a good chance the death will still have a strong emotional impact on others in the family. My Dad is probably tore up, I tried to call him, but no luck.

I'll be honest here, It really wouldn't bother me in the slightest if I wasn't close to the person.

Wow that's horrible. Having family that has had cancer and a grandmother who passed before I turned a year old. Sorry to hear that you're relationship with him is/was sour.

Ya, I kind of think it depends on the situation...maybe she thought you disliked him so much you might not want to dedicate an entire phone discussion to it? Idk.

Totally understandable, for me it's more about principle, and less about the details.

I understand why you'd be annoyed, I mean, I personally wouldn't text a family member to let them know another family member had died, but I wouldn't be bothered if I was let know that way (If it was someone I wasn't close to)

Whoah! :eek How insensitive is that?

....unfortunately, with easy access to tech stuff and people always in a rush nowadays- a more personal way of communication has vanished into thin air. Tsk tsk

My deepest condolences to you and your family, D ((((((hugs)))))

Condolences Darrell..

I read the thread so I understand it's the principal and for some people they just would not care.

But you are right that society has made it that it's now OK to send emails telling people they are fired, lost family members and so on..

We have turned into people who don't talk or are afraid to meet each other in many cases..

NOT Me... Anytime you are in town, ping me.. :D

But again, accept my condolences.
