I am going out riding tonight. I am going to have more layers on than I want, but I have to be safe and protect myself. I have a rodeo coming up and I want to win it this year.

Well, let's see if I can explain it. You have a steer in a chute. They let the steer run which he will automatically run towards the other end of the arena. You and your buddy are on your horses with ropes ( Lasso's) You have to wait until the steer is loose until you can break the barrier ( a rope) before you and your buddy can chase the steer. Now the clock is ticking. One of the members is a header ( meaning he will rope the head). The other member is a footer (meaning he will rope both legs of the steer) Has to be both legs and the head to count. You do this as quick as you can with out breaking the barrier (the rope ^^^ up there) and the head of the steer and the legs of the steer must be roped. The steer has to be roped for a total of 4 seconds to be official. If the steer wiggles out of either of the ropes the time is dead. Which ever team does it faster is the winner.

Been on the phone since I last posted asking you what team roping is. My OH came round to use the internet too.

Anyway, just read this and the post after it and I see what it is now. Sounds extremely manic, physical and hard work. Do the steers(?) get injured, or do they just feel disorientated with it - sounds pretty painful. I couldn't go through all those bruises and broken bones either, not brave at all.

No it doesn't hurt them at all. The head on the steer has a pad on his head. See here is the thing, people think that rodeo is cruel to animals. People have been roping steers and cattle for years to live. It just turned into a sport is all for time and money. You think a 2,900 lb bull is going to get hurt. I don't think so he will try and kill you if he could. Yes I admit a bull gets a rope tied tight around his groin to make him buck, but it is also the spurring the cowboy does to make him buck too. That is how you get scored. The bull already before he gets out of the shoot with you on it has a 50 point lead. It is the Cowboy's responsibility to beat out the bull and ride it for 8 seconds all the while spur him and make him (dance as we call it) and try to stay on him to get your score upgraded from his.

Going to go ride some bulls around 5:00 or so. Suppose to meet up with some cowboy friends of mine and we are going to go see if we can ride in the heat without getting fatigued.
