Yes. I do drugs and it makes me happy, as long as I'm not hurting anyone else with it, I dont see the problem.
I couldn't agree more. Blessing others ends up being a blessing to you. Amazing how that works.
I just hear many people justify the things they do because it makes them happy and I just personally don't see that as sound judgment.
I think that the more we are focused on self, the more arrogant, self absorbed, prideful, etc. we are and that it actually keeps us from being all we can be. It keeps us from being able to do all that we really could do. So it is the opposite of what one would actually think is rational: If we are mainly focused on ourselves and our goals we can accomplish everything, right? We accomplish much, but are we really accomplishing all we truly can? Are we getting along with others as best as we can? How much drama is in our lives? Etc. etc. etc.
I say when our primary focus is not on our own happiness, the more effective we are at life. Further more I say when we are focus on God everything else falls into place exactly where it is suppose to.
I'm rambling and I'm sure that many won't even get what I'm trying to say here ... gah I hate all this typing ... lol ... but for those that do get what I am trying to say here ... CHEERS! LOL!
I suggest you read Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand
It's called general disrespect for others, instability and never knowing if the next door neighbor on prozak is going to draw a gun, slug you in the face or yell at you and tell you to go fuck yourself. It's nice to pretend we live in a kind world.... Not to mention the blatent disrespect today's youth display on a daily basis.:clap:clap
I think it's our purpose to take care of each other, support each other and lend a helping hand every once in a while.
What ever happend to walking across the street and shaking hands with your neighbor, kids playing together, you know.....The way we do things in the south
My only purpose in life is a bit extreme...
The only thing I care about is the happiness of my girlfriend and my future family.
She's the only reason why I go to work, why I stopped drinking, smoking,...

Indeed, and that would be a strong argument. The point I'm round about trying to get at though, is the question of "When does it become my business (If ever)?" Can people litterally do anything they want, and does society simply have to accept all behaviors?

Society definitely does not have to accept all behaviors. Our laws address many negative behaviors. Somehow drugs came into this discussion. Putting people in jail for drug procession/use is a travesty. (Drug dealing is different). Drug addiction is a health issue, not a criminal issue. Punishing people by ruining their lives with jail time, only compounds the problem.
To a large extent drugs do influence people to engage in criminal activity. Those that do engage in criminal activity deserve criminal punishment.
They might have to get straight while doing time. Hopefully you'll agree that just doing time, will not really fix the situation in the long run.
Punish the crime not the drug.
