Re: Kates nothing thread

There were different members then. I'd known several members on here from another forum and we all started bonding in a thread (I think it was called the random bullshit thread or something) and having one conversation in there and another one in the PW thread whilst replying to other threads as well. It was really busy.

Re: Kates nothing thread

Well, I'm joined another forum and I have 36,000 posts in 2 years:eek I don't why I have such little posts here, probably cos i split my time between the two now

Maybe it's the type of conversations.

On some places it's a lot quicker paced if you know what I mean.

I spend my time on a parenting forum but rarely post. It's too much fun just watching grown women (and some men) getting into massive fights about silly things.

haha oh I can imagine, parents can be bitchyyyy

And so desperate to be the bestest parent ever!

I'm just the worst parent ever. Teenage mother who formula fed her daughter and isn't currently working.

Though I do get some bonus points cos I gave birth naturally. Means I'm heaps better than all those people who had C-Sections or used pain killers :sarcasm

lmao, I formula fed both my kids and neither of them are ever sick, some of the nurses at the hospital were so pushy though about breast feeding

I tried to breastfeed but had problems with my milk. It was fine for about 4 weeks then it stopped suddenly. I then had unhelpful idiots telling me it was impossible for that to happen, use a breast pump etc but none of it worked and I had to switch to formula or Imogen would starve. But Imogen's never really been ill other than occasional colds.

My HV was a bitch about it. She kept complaining that if I didn't stop breastfeeding slowly my breasts would swell and leak loads (they didn't). Then making a big comment about how no teenage mother she knows breastfeeds and I probably stopped to please my boyfriend.

She then made a big deal about asking me if I needed a paternity test for the men who might be my daughter's father. Did I know all of them?

WOW she sounds really supportive, not!

I was bottle fed, because my mum just didn't produce milk with me (My brother was breastfed though). You do what you have to do for your baby. Some people just need to keep their mouths closed.

I agree. I've lost count of the amount of times on the parenting forum the breastfeeding nazis make statements like how every mother produces milk, the ones who don't are liars blah blah blah.

Well great, they could breastfed and they found it easy. Different strokes for different folks.

OMG! What a bitch:eek I would have complained about her, how rude! I was 21 when I had my daughter but I looked alot younger and they definitely treat you like an idiot and think they can talk to you however they like if they think you're younger. When I went into labour with my daughter, I told the Doctor the pains were very bad, I'm not a screamy person at all and he decided just by looking at me that I wouldn't have the baby till the next day (he didn't even examine me, just went by how in pain I looked) he told me he's heard it gets a lot worse then this! I gave birth 2 hours later in the admissions ward, I barely even made it there, I'd been in the bathroom all the time because I thought I was in the early stages and I was a wuss cos i couldn't even cope with that!

I wish I had complained. I just thought it was somewhat normal based on my experiences with the others. All the midwives and health visitors I had (except the teenage specialist and the two when I gave birth) were utter cows. Chatting normally to me then they'd look down, see my age and then it would change. I'd get things explained using little words and they'd talk s-l-o-w-l-y and keep asking if I understood.

Drove me nuts.

I really lucked out with the midwives in the labour ward. They were lovely. I only just got to hospital in time (I walked in then got laid on the bed, my waters broken for me and told to push) and they were calm, explained things in a normal way and did everything they could to make me comfortable. Pity the ones on the post-natal ward weren't as nice.

Re: Kates nothing thread

The attitude is not only towards young mothers though. My aunt gave birth to her 2nd child when she was 40 and she didn't produce any milk.

He nipples were cracked and bleeding and the midwife or nurses (I'm not sure who) refused to let her switch to formula, and her being the emotional wreck she was just listened to them. Eventually my uncle stepped in and said enough was enough and they had to switch.

Well, you definitely learn a lesson after you have your first that's for sure, I wasn't as quiet when I went in to have my son I can tell you. But you don't have a clue really when It's your first so you just do what you're told. I definitely trusted my own body and instincts more the second time.
