Posting reps and PMs on the open forum

It's in poor taste and, unless the other party involved has given you permission, it shouldn't be done. It's one thing to mention a rep you've gotten...but to post it up for everyone to see along w/ who it's from is just in poor taste and is not condoned on this forum. So for those of you who have noticed a missing thread, that's b/c I moved it to an area where only mods can see it.

If you have a problem w/ a member harassing you through the rep system, please report it a mod instead of bringing the drama to the forum. Remember, however, that name-calling in rep is no longer reportable.

Please respect other people's privacy. I'm sure we've ALL said many thing by rep or PM that we wouldn't appreciate being posted on the open forum. Thanks.

It's incredibly awkward and rude to have people's reps posted all over...glad it's over! Posting those things for everyone to see completely defeats their purpose. People need to get over themselves and grow up.

No, people need to grow up and tell the person what they think online for everyone to see.

If you want to tell the person something in private, PM them directly.

I don't see the point of the rep/kudos or whatever forums call them. Its only the internet. I'm better off without it. I know if you get a certain amount on Otz, you get to be VIP (albeit at the discretion of the mods)

Exactly. However you want to handle your petty squabbles in life, whatever you think is the right "non pussy" way to hate on someone online is fine, but in the end this is a forum that has to be controlled a bit. If you don't like it, you're in luck participation at OTz is not mandatory.

But in that token anything done in hidden or away from public eyes only creates even more animosity.. Using PM ( Private Messaging ) or for those who block it the Rep system on a Forum to bash someone is no better than bullying them when the hallways are empty..

I personally think it's cowardly and two faced to say shit in private if you haven't got the balls to say it where everyone can see you for who you are. I set my profile up so that only friends can PM me and I had some twat on here moaning about it, once. Anything anyone has to say to me nastily, they can say it on here in the open, my PM system is not a cowardly abuse system.:thumbup

Sorry Peter, I was only going to try to offer you my advice, not rheem your ass out. If I want to call you a ******* ******* I'll tell you here and not PM you.

Not that I take rejection bad, just that I think it's very childish of you to only accept PM's from certain people..

The problem is IMO too many people are thinned skin on internet forums, and for some reason, people tend to think that if they can't agree on something, they can't get along.

No, not going back to monitoring rep. But rep IS supposed to be private. If someone doesn't mind you sharing it, fine...but people who aren't abusing it should have SOME expectation of privacy.

Unless you have an e-mail disclaimer as far as who the intended person is for your e-mail, you should ALWAYS write what you expect the rest of world to read.

Sorry, I disagree. If you want to rheem another forum members ass out, do it in public. Say what you will about Doc, but my money is on the fact that he didn't go complaining to a moderator about what some of those people said to him. If you've got something bad to say, say it in public or don't say it at all.
