i commend you on your decision,...although..i dont think your seeing the bigger picture here.
in 10 to 15 years you'll probably need to get the surgery done again because your eyes are still deteriorating.
:D

This couldn't be further from the truth. I had the surgery done back in 1999 and I still see 20/20. Where in the world do you even get your information?

The most uncomfortable part is when they shove this tool down into your eye socket to keep your eye in place. Once the suction begins to hold it in place, your eye will black out and you won't know what the heck is being done.

There's also virtually no pain after, except for whatever discomfort the tool might create (broken blood vessels, etc). I took a short nap when I got home and when I awoke, voila, 20/20.

Good luck!

Oh! Thank you badboy! Did they cut your "flap" mechanically or with a laser?

Mechanically. I believe it is all laser now. And no problem! I know I was a little worried when I first did it and back then it wasn't "mainstream", so feel confident you'll be seeing clearly soon! :) Geez, back when I did it, it cost me $3900. :(

All-laser procedures are just starting to become mainstream. There are only two facilities in my area that perform all-laser surgeries, the others still use an actual blade for the cut.

I could have done all laser for an extra 300 per eye. I was going to cos I didnt want to skimp but my optician said that there is really not much difference for my eyes and the only difference would be the recovery time by about a week and as i dont do any sports it wont matter to me and i wont notice a difference. no difference to the end result at all.

Oh my bad, they are all laser here now...

You won't feel a thing pink, you have no feeling in the lens itself. I remember them giving me a valium before the "surgery".

I felt fine. My eyes were teary and generally just felt a little irritated so I just took a nap. The irritation was from the thing they shoved down my eye socket, and it was only in one eye. When I awoke I felt great!

UPDATE:

ok so I went today and I was shitting myself. I had to hold onto the nurse's hand and he explained exactly what was happening and what I should see and counted down how long things should take. I think I could have married that man!
So here is what happened:

I go and get more scans and measurements taken of my eyes and fill out the world scariest consent form of ALL the things that could go wrong. I lay on this bed and they put numbing eye drops in my eyes. They put a suction ring round it to hold your eye in place and then cut a flap with a little saw device. It looks and sounds scary but you can’t feel a thing. He used a little hook thing to lift the flap up. Yes I could see this but in a morbid way I thought it was pretty cool. Once the flap is up everything goes blurry they fire the laser into your eye for literally 10 seconds. There is a strange smell when the laser goes off. I’m not sure if it is form the eye or not but it’s a little unnerving. The nurse had to remind me to breathe at that point. They then put the flap back down and with a little sponge smooth the cornea back down and put in some drops. None of it is painful, but you can see them sponging the eye is quite strange cos it’s like watching it out of a little window. You don’t feel a thing. Then that eye is done. They do the same for the other eye.
After they do a short eye exam and let you sit in a dark room with your eyes closed for a little while. You need to wear sunglasses home cos light is very intense for your eyes. The numbing drops wear off quite quickly. This for me was equivalent to cutting onions. It felt exactly the same and just as intense. For me it was bearable but I couldn’t open my eyes not so much from pain but just very difficult to fight the urge to keep them shut. When I got home I had a nap. The onion pain lasted for an hour and a half. After that my eyes felt a little gritty but I could open my eyes and I could see EVERYTHING I’m not kidding my vision was 100x better I can sit on my bed and see every leaf on the tree at the bottom of my garden! The grittyness stopped after another hour or so no I have no pain what so ever. Every now and then they feel a little dry and when I blink it goes away. Utterly amazing and well worth, what? 3 hours in total of discomfort including the surgery.

I’m having trouble seeing things clearly up close but I was told beforehand this was normal until the swelling goes down. It's not bad I can still see to type. I have another eye exam tomorrow by which time my vision will be even better. I should have the full vision I am going to get by 1 month. TBH if my eyes stayed how they are now I'll be ecstatic!

That's excellent news PP - glad to hear it went well :thumbup

I'm also curious if anyone who has had the surgery done had 'floaters' and whether these improved or got worse or no difference after your eye's innards are zapped.

That site is trying to sell something I think but the gist of the info is about right. You see them (if you do!) on white backgrounds normally. I've had them for years, worse in the right eye - probably as it seems to be the main one.

Thought about the surgery too - but I wouldn't want the floaters to be any worse / more in focus after surgery than they are now.

Great news there! Just a FYI, they usually over correct your eyes a tad because during the healing they will change slightly. However, for some people they don't lose anything and actually have better than 20/20. Just a FWIW.
