i am very curious as to see other people's viewpoints on this. i'm not sure if Plan B is just an American thing or if it's offered outside of the united states.

for those who don't know that Plan B is, here:
Plan B® is an emergency contraceptive. Plan B® is intended to prevent pregnancy after known or suspected contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse. Emergency contraceptive pills (like all oral contraceptives) do not protect against infection with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases.

where do i stand? personally, i think it's a wonderful thing. i know there are some out there who call it an "abortion pill" but i personally do not believe this to be true, considering that it PREVENTS pregnancy, it doesn't abort anything that's already happened. have i used it before? you bet! accidents happen. people make mistakes. condoms break. it's a part of life. i'm just glad they made this stuff for cases like this!

how do you feel?

The morning after pill?. Personally, I dont condone it unless in the same circumstances as I am ok with abortion.. If the woman is pregnant without any health risks or through rape, this is still murder as far as I'm concerned. You have sex, you always take a risk, even with contraception. If the risk dosen't go in your favour, killing a baby isn't the answer.

but plan b is used to prevent pregnancy, not abort it. it states on the package and all the websites that if you use it and you're already pregnant, it won't do anything to the fetus (but it's not recommended to take if you are pregnant).

I don't have any issue with this. Things happen all the time when your preferred method of contraceptive doesn't work. I think this is a great alternative than either A - having babies you don't really want or B - going out and having an abortion as a form of birth control.
I'm glad that there are other options out there for women.

If you're already pregnant and it dosent kill the fetus, what exactly is the point of it as a birth control? Sorry, I feel like I'm missing something here. :confused

it's pretty much like birth control pills times two. you take them the morning after if something happens and they act as birth control to prevent pregnancy. it's just stronger than regular birth control pills.

not even really that Dana if youre on the pill and forget one day youre not going to end up preggers usually, its more like if youre not on the pill and say the condom breaks or you would get raped

To me, it is akin to abortion.

It does NOT prevent conception, it only prevents implantation. If you have already had a positive pregnancy test, it means implantation has happened, and that is why it won't abort the baby.

So, for someone like me, who believes that conception is the moment life begins, it is abortion.

I too believe that pregnancy is a known 'risk' of sex. You do the 'crime' you do the 'time'.

Ah well... we all have our opinions... I say yay for abortion. I don't think ppl should look down on others simply because they choose to use abortion as an option. You may not like it but don't hate someone else because they do.

Ah thanks, I was finding some of these answers kind of confusing. I agree with you. Personally I think that the moment a sperm has joined with an egg, that's a baby and it's wrong to kill him or her.

I think as long as its not abused and used as birth control its fine. So are you saying an IUD is abortion too? dont they actually rip the egg?

From the time you have intercourse until the time the egg is fertilized could take up to 5 days, then another 5 days until implantation of the fertilized egg. So does this drug prevent fertilization or does it prevent implantation of a fertilized egg?
If it prevents the egg from being fertilized, it could not be viewed as abortion by anyone, just as a condom isn't abortion.
On the other hand, there are times when an egg is fertilized and it does not implant naturally... would you argue that this is a miscarriage? Or does it at least need to implant first?

And you bring up a very good point Audra. An IUD prevents a fertilized egg from implanting... so is that abortion? Where is the outrage at the use of IUD's???

HOW DOES PLAN B WORK?
Plan B works through delaying or preventing ovulation, by interfering with fertilization (inhibiting the movement of the egg or the sperm through the fallopian tube), and may inhibit implantation by altering the lining of the uterus. It is not effective if the process of implantation has begun. Plan B will NOT cause a miscarriage. Plan B does not provide any protection or treatment against sexually transmitted infections. Pregnancies occurring despite treatment do not have an increased risk of adverse outcome.

I just found this information

Plan B works like a birth control pill to prevent pregnancy mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary. It is possible that Plan B may also work by preventing fertilization of an egg (the uniting of sperm with the egg) or by preventing attachment (implantation) to the uterus (womb), which usually occurs beginning 7 days after release of an egg from the ovary. Plan B will not do anything to a fertilized egg already attached to the uterus. The pregnancy will continue.

So the green text could not be considered abortion by anyone. The red text could be considered abortion by those who believe that a fertilized egg is a life.
