I didn't say you did. I'm saying posting amber alerts is a good idea but releasing personal information about a deceased child that media outlets haven't released or something like that I wouldn't agree with

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. For many reasons; people mean well, but they can often get in the way of the professionals. And if the child has been taken, alarming and panicking the kidnapper is never a good course of action. Why do you think that public appeals for information are always the last and most desperate action undertaken by the police?

And normally, the family will be told what to say and what not to say.

I'm a bit torn with the idea in general. I agree with Zorak but at the same time, I think it might be a good idea, after the police have done a public appeal for information.

However, I think having many people reposting appeals for help, might just have the opposite effect and cause some people to stop listening or to stop caring.

I thought before issuing a report that a child is missing and broadcasting it over the media, the police would review evidence, review witness statements, review any CCTV footage, review timelines, look at if the child could have run away and other possibilities.

Well I don't know. I live in the UK, we don't have amber alerts so maybe we follow a slightly different system.

Amber alerts are immediate with child description and person they were last seen with description including license plate number if abducted

I think it's a good way to get the information out ***IF*** the person posting it has checked it out and made sure that it's a legit broadcast. There are some circulating out there that have been circulating for YEARS and it's not even a valid missing person broadcast.

I agree w/ this. There are REASONS that the police don't release certain bits of information. And sometimes increased media attention is just enough to make the kidnapper panic and kill a child that is still alive (yes, I get it doesn't apply in this PARTICULAR case before somebody points that out, LOL).

There's a different in a public appeal and an AMBER Alert. A public appeal is when the parents go in front of the media and beg for the safe return of their child or any information that anybody may have.

update: kid was killed by his mother (she overdosed him on cough syrup) and she was found in Massachusetts where she admitted to doing the crime. (State police found her in a rest stop and started asking her questions when she confessed doing the crime) she is in a Massachusetts hospital under psychiatric evaluation.
