To answer you, Wednesday- I'm in the south. Race is still a predominant issue in my little town. I think it's a huge step forward for Americans in general. We've gone from slavery to integration to electing a black man to the highest office. I personally couldn't care less that he is black, but a lot of people do. A lot people didn't vote for him because of his skin color, while a lot of people did vote for him because of it. Race is a double edged sword. Racism goes both ways and hopefully this will help make it less of an issue.

The reason I don't like him is because I don't agree with him. I don't agree with all the "spread the wealth" bs that is going to happen. I don't think people should be handed anything- you should earn what you get. I've had a fairly privileged life, thanks to my dad and when I graduate here in the next few months, I'm completely on my own. I know what a nice life is and I know I want that when I "grow up" so I'm prepared to bust my butt to get there. But I don't think it's fair that I have to help someone who isn't busting theirs. (And I'm not saying everyone less fortunate is there by choice, but there is that group of people also!)

But that's just how I feel.

Ok...i understand...and im sure you all have your own personal reasons of why you dont wish for him to be president.

I was trying merely to point out that this "hate campaign" is doing nothing but rubbing others up the wrong way...the decision is final, there is nothing anyone can do but sit in threads in forums and whine how "our country is fucked"...instead of trying...yes trying..to work with what your dealt...

Im not saying he will be all your looking for.....but ya never know?...right?..

There's a lot of things in life that can't be controlled. But just because you can't control it doesn't mean you can't complain about it. :dunno

But everybody has the same chances- study hard and earn scholarships if you can't afford school. Get a job when you turn 16 and save your money. Don't buy expensive clothes, or jewelry or movies or video games or cd's. Don't buy a car, unless you live in the middle of no where and ABSOLUTELY need one to get to school or work. People just aren't willing to work hard for anything. We live in a gimme gimme society and it's about to get worse...

And just to throw this in there, since I said I have a privileged life- i do, but I don't get anything handed to me. My parents pay my tuition, and give me money for food and are covering my car payments until I graduate. I have a car so I can drive home, or to my grandparents for the weekend. When I go home to visit, if I want spending money, I work- I wash my parents cars, mow the lawn, do housework.

It's interesting to hear everyone who isn't from America's opinions. I think until it gets into discussions like this, you don't truly realize how different the world is.

I'm going to give the man a shot. He hasn't messed up- yet- because he isn't technically president- yet. I'm not going to welcome him with open arms, but I will give him a chance. And if I was wrong, I was wrong. My stomach is just all sorts of twisted thinking about how this country is going to change. And it will change. Obama will bring the changes he promised, but they aren't changes I want.

It's also Freedom of speech. I think the internet forums are a wonderful vehicle, which allow folks to exchange ideas, concerns, etc.

Yes, I can. I have worked during both college and high school. I used to get to work at 0530 in the morning during the school year. Granted, it was babysitting, but I still had to manage my time and get my stuff done and go to bed early enough to get up to be somewhere that early and still function through out the day. At one point, I had two, I won't say babysitting because one was for a company, child care jobs. One to be at at 0530, go to school, go to band (had a scholarship for that one, decided it wasn't worth it), then go home long enough to eat dinner then drive out to my other job and get home at 9 to do my homework and go to bed only to repeat it all the next day.

My brother works almost full time at a hardware store right now and commutes from home to a comm. college. He's paying for everything himself except room and board and my mom is giving him one tank of gas every two weeks to get to school.

It's all a matter of choice- what's more important to you- studying to improve your quality of life, or coasting through high school and college having a good ole time? Everyone has a chance. What holds a lot of people back is their parents never encouraging them to do anything more. Those are the "less fortunate" people that will be getting huge chunks of my paycheck and benefitting from me working and that just isn't cool to me. For example, with the whole social security thing, which is already messed up, I think it should be run more like a 401k and everyone should have their own accounts. Those who work hard their entire lives can have a nice retirement and those who didn't work hard... not my fault.

But I'm in no way saying people should have to sacrifice fun and childhood. You just have to get your priorities straight and balance them.
