Janie - it can be...mainly because they are going right into the bone. I'm registered for that, but haven't been called up yet. A friend of mine has donated twice and while he said it was painful, the reward was far greater...also, if you are donating, they will take care of you...just like when you donate blood. It's obviously a little more intensive, but they take care of you.

I know in PA you don't and I don't think you do as long as it goes wrong WHEN you are donating...but if let's say you were to get an infection or something like that and need to be hospitalized, it's a bit tricky. Yep, the system is quite broken.

No No I meant what if there is complications or something? Will they really take care of it?

I had a bone marrow biopsy 5 years ago this month. I know how painful that was. I gotta believe a transplant is worse.

Just call me the Tin Woodman from Oz from now on :D

If you watch that film closely, the Tin Man (or woodsman) actually had the biggest heart of all and it was with him all the time....I'm not saying...I'm just saying... ;)

I've been an organ donor since it was first offered on the California driver's license. I don't remember what year that was, but they glued a red sticky circle on the license. It's indelibly on the license I carry now though.

I won't need them and maybe they would be of some use to someone.

I've considered becoming a bone marrow donor, but lazily, I just haven't taken that step.

I've just officially donated any of my organs to others who need then after my death and got my official letter confirming it today. Has anyone else done this? Way I look at is the're no use to me when I'm dead so anyone else who needs them is welcome to them.
i got dibs on the liver

i have been an organ donor since i was 15. why do i need them. and honestly after your autospy they put them into a black garbage bag and sew them back into your chest, so its not like they are where they are supposed to be anyway
