that is so totally contra the olympic spirit, lets face it we can only get by with what we have and we will only win in sports that we support form the grass roots level, ( Hockey ) If you want to win like the Yanks and the Chinese, start lobbying for more funding for all sports, i fully expect at the close of the games we wil get the inevitable media questions about the COC and why we did not own the podium, pretty obvious to me, the media have to play their part as well, how on earth are kids going to want to win gold for Canada in the trampoline, when the media ignores the sport, apart from every four years

so we need to put up or shut up, let us just focus on what we do well (Hockey) and have fun with the rest
Didn't we have this conversation during the winter Olympics? :p

Perhaps you're misunderstanding me. I don't "want to win like the Yanks and Chinese". I don't want to be dominant in every sport. I think the athletes we do send need to adopt more of a "killer attitude", so to speak. Be more competitive. I don't like that a lot of them are just happy to be there. They should want to win.

I think they all want to win, the dejection of the soccer team in losing reflects that, i dont know any specific examples of anyone who did not want to win. Also we need to celebrate PBs, case in point - canadian decathlete only took the sport up two years ago, came to London ranked 24th in the world. Got, i think 6 PBs from his ten events, ended up fifth

That is worth applause

You make your luck
Worthy champs
No sour grapes here

I disagree

Canada got screwed on that call by the ref on the goalie. That is a bull shit call given the situation

Wonder if the NBA stench of controlling games got to the Olympics too. After all Canada in the gold medal game would not be as attractive.

as to the game today I merely stated the opinion that the US was outplayed and got lucky as hell

agreed you make your luck. seen way too many hockey games where a team lost like this

Of course. He walked over the finishing line again.

Indeed! I find it interesting how much the public loves his antics (myself included).... yet despise the same things from our own athletes. They get berated in the press for being showboats, not team players, and even endzone dances are now fined. I thoroughly enjoy a bit of gloat and showmanship because I think it's fun and they've earned it, but I think most of America disagrees with that for our own athletes. I wonder what the difference is?

I would watch every single second if I could. Any event.

I'm really gutted I'm not living in the UK anymore, and can't go back for the games. I'd love to be there this summer. In the UK we have the red button where we can choose which event we watch, but here in Canada there's no such thing as far as I've seen, my fiance didn't have a clue what I was talking about. So I guess I'll just have to watch whatever's being shown. I'm fine with that. I'm hoping to make the next Olympics in Brazil the first one I attend.

I've been watching it almost all day every day. Loved it all, although am slightly relieved it's coming to an end - I can only get away with doing absolutely nothing at work for so long.

The BBC's online coverage has been bloody brilliant.

So does this mean few - if any - are watching the Paralympics?

Though the coverage has been pretty piss poor here too.

Bit of a slap in the face for the athletes.

When I was a kid we were glued to everything associated with The Olympics. I can be honest and say I have watched very little of the last few. Are you excited? Will you watch a lot of coverage? Will you just catch highlights? Are you getting geared up for marathon watching sessions?

I still remember my Mom, sister and I were all deathly ill with the flu during the 1968 winter games. We watched around the clock coverage because the flu had us all three miserable for days on end.
Yeah l watch things l wouldn't cross the street to watch just because the home side has a person in the event. And yes l cheer them on and " fist pump " should they do well and moan when they don't.
And if they win a medal l have this huge wide shit ass grin.
But l'm proud of all of them win or lose.
Representing your country in front of the world......it doesn't get any better for a athlete.
