For myself, I really enjoy October for one reason, hockey season is back and I can get stressed out, cheer and yell... I also love observing how well they players are developing in the Oilers organization, who’s improving, who’s stepping up and who’s disappointing...
Well in September basically, Stone stepped it up, Schremp is not as great as he was touted, Eberle is going to be a stud when he’s ready, the other young players are doing decent and the veterans need a swift kick in the rear end. One thing I’m going to love this year is that accountability is going to be taken seriously. Before we had a player’s coach with MacT and his system was stale, his message is not getting across to them and player’s never really had a team mindset, they focused more on individuality. I just hope I don’t see one or two players being hot one night then cold the next game, I will seriously go to Rexall and kick their ass myself if I see that. I want to see a team with heart, a team with grit and a team with passion out there every night. That will make me happy.
I completely boycotted last season out of protest with MacT still being around, since he’s gone I can finally enjoy watching this team again without getting more white hair, I seriously had five white hairs from the 2007 season also 2008, those days are over. *shudders* WHY didn’t they actually fire him in 2006 when we all knew his days were over, one cup run, huge deal when game 7 was lost.
Every single player needs to really step it up this season, I’m going to be happy to see them on the ice again, I’m particulary going to watch the top six forwards and maybe a couple of guys in the 3rd and 4th lines. I’m not too concerned about the defense at the moment, as long as they are healthy then I believe they’ll be alright. I’m so freaking happy that we don’t have Roloson anymore, yes he might’ve been very decent and the best player out there on game night but honestly... the team in front of him was playing crap, he’s average and slow... also very soft on the top corners and the rebounds he has are meh. The Bulin wall will be interesting but I am a bit tired of getting aged goaltenders, sure they are reliable but as time goes on, their speed slows. I do like the mask he’s sporting though.
Now the magnifying glass we Edmontonians love putting on a player, this season it will be Penner and Comrie, every move of theirs is going to be watched, every mistake they make they will know about it. The pressure is on for these two, I’ll find it very amusing this season. I don’t like Comrie but I will be an adult and do what I was taught which was if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all, I might need duct tape for that actually.
What I’m worried and concerned about this season really needs to be addressed... face offs, that is going to be a killer for this team if they still act the way they do in the circle and lose the draw. I wouldn’t mind if special teams was a lot more better as well, they’ll still have inconsistence’s which will make me frustrated but hey it can’t get any worse than it already is, right? I also worry about size and grit in this team, we have many small forwards which can be pushed around easily and having injuries always bothered me since it brings my memories back to the AHL team we iced in 2007. Mac and Zach should help in that area a bit, also Souray and if only... Penner.
This will be a better season, I am so happy about Quinn. I love his attitude and his interviews. Playoff bound? Oh my god I will orgasm if they actually make it in the playoffs.
