It may not have the same success because GH is THE name in the genre, but I think it'll be better. You can play guitar, bass, drums, or sing. Downloadable new songs. And you can form a band online with 3 other people. Bad ass!!!

I'm gonna be all over them drums. :D

i would love that though. i play drums so i might have some pre-determined skill?
but really, i think that guitar is by far the most popularized rock instrument. I'm not to sure how the sale of the drums would go. I cant see alot of people wanting to spend a buncha money on a fake drum set. even if its not that expensive its gonna take up way more room that a guitar would.

I think the ship has sailed and rock band missed it.

They say if you can do the drums on Expert, you can pretty much play them in real life. Which makes sense. Can't do that with a gee-tar :)

hey guys, I just picked up GH2 last night. I have a question: do you guys use your pinky? I'm watching utube and it seems like some people use it on the bottom two buttons, while some use their third finger.

Also, do you guys strum up and down, or just one way or the other? And, are you hitting strum + fret simultaneously, or holding fret and then strumming?

Thanks all!

well you asked a big question. using your pinky is ofcourse your most beneficial thing to master. its common sense. 4 fingers.....5 buttons.....of course its going to help to use your pinky.

however i dont sit there and concentrate on using it. i mean i sometimes catch myself using my ring finger for the orange button.

and for strumming up and down...once again its going to help you out to master. what i do, is i single strum what i know i can do comfortably. but when i see a massive ammount of notes coming at me i will grab the strum bar using my thumb ready to strum up and down.

and a MAJOR MAJOR helping point with learning guitar hero is knowing that you can hold the fret buttons down before strumming. so if you see a 2 button chord coming put your fingers on the corresponding buttons and wait to strum.

thats my best advice.

now ya know what all the fuss was about haha.

I'm kinda bitter when there is a game out that everybody is talking about that i havn't tried. But as soon as i actually tried it, i had to go out and buy GH2 when it first came out. then i bought rock the 80's then GH3.

and now im a guitar hero! haha not really.
what difficulty are you starting on?

eh, I feel bad playing below "hard" because it eliminates the fifth button. Like I'm using training wheels or something lol. But since I just got the game yesterday, I've been playing on "medium"...I'll work my way up.

well hell thats a great start. i know people who will stay in easy for atleast a month.

but yeah get used to medium. Alot of people i know dont really get any better at it cuz they dont step up the difficulty.
so their just flabergasted when you do something on expert.
but the best thing you can do is when your good at a certain difficulty,.(like getting 90 percent for everysong you try)
is step it up. to the next level. and start with the easy songs again. stepping out of your comfort zone is a probably the best way to get better.

thanks...and again thanks for the orignal advice...I went home and played Cherry Pie on medium and scored a 94...not too bad for only my second day I guess. Tonight I'm playing some more and I'll see if I can move up to hard.

But yeah, your tips made all the difference!:)

Eh, just wanted to try to stir up some convo re: GH2.

I buttf*cked my way through most of the first five songs last night on HARD.

Guess I'll try to unlock some more songs on medium tonight. Some of my current faves are Sweet Child O Mine, Crazy on You, Killer Queen (had to buy that one lol), Killing in the Name...

Dammit I wish they had put Ironman on GH2!

Funny....now every rock song I hear on the radio/mp3, I think "damn I bet this would be fun to play on GH2!"
If I didn't have to work I think I could play this game at least 14 hours a day.

"were?" So you've moved on to GH3, or just gotten sick of the game, burnt out?

yeah, HSB and Mother are good ones too.
I never actually owned it, I played whenever I visited my family cuz my brother had it. I would've bought it, but I had a PS3 which never had a compatible controller. And now I'm waiting for Rock Band :D

update: Okay, I got this game Tuesday after work...besides messing around with the gh3 demo for an hour or so using the regular x360 controller, it was my first experience with the game. Tonight (Saturday) I completed career mode on medium and knocked out the first song tier on hard. Not too shabby IMO considering how long I've owned the game (although I play like five hours a day lol)...

Seriously considering picking up GH3...

Honestly, I still play II more than III and I have them both.

The song list on II is much more enjoyable, more melody songs and semi-ballad type songs with a good upbeat tempo.

The song choices in III, I can't really find myself liking all of them. Some good songs like One, EvenFlow, Paranoid, and the one by GNR (name escapes me), etc... but the entire list in II is awesome.

Since i started in easy/medium, I got used to my pointer being on the green, middle on red, ring on yellow and pinky on blue. Once you get into hard, IMO, it's ESSENTIAL that you learn to play one button down so that your pinky rests on the orange full time just like it would on the blue full time. When you're comfortable in both positions, the songs get much easier.

oh and I only strum down unless it's a bunch of close notes, then I hold it like I would a pick and fling it up and down.
