Newsflash.....The president technically cannot spend anything, congress is who spends the money.

And mind you Dems had majority in the house since 2006. If you want to fix spending, you put term limitations on congress and senate.

And there should be a BALANCE of power

You guys ought to remember Obama is not in a position to make all the spending decisions etc by himself. In fact he won't even know what to do (not insulting his intelligence). Presidents in most countries have scores of specialist advisors. So Obama is just a puppet. You guys have been incessently finger-pointing on him when he inherited all the wrongdoings by Bush and his administration and he has been in office for just over 100 days.

This is to reinforce the earlier point I made. (the point I made earlier)
When Fixing Government, Beware of the Brainiacs
Rotten economy? Not if you're in the business of radically overhauling American government. Between the Obama Administration and Congress, the assembly line for Big Ideas is running triple shifts, cranking out stimulus plans, bank-rescue plans, foreclosure-prevention plans, health-care-reform plans, alternative-energy plans, auto-industry-reorganization plans, climate-protection plans, Afghanistan-war plans, Pentagon-spending plans — and that's just the first 100 days. Lathing the parts for all these new plans and welding them together is a bleary-eyed workforce of card-carrying Smart People. They come from the best universities and think tanks. One Cabinet member, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, has a Nobel Prize in physics.
But the thing to remember about smart people is how dumb they can be. Thousands, maybe millions, of IQ points went into creating a market for magical mortgage bonds that could only go up in value. Whoops!

Good point. No wonder we've pretty much gone downhill since then. ;)

Actually, this whole economic situation started because of Bill Clinton's policy, but no previous decisions made can be an excuse for Obama and his congress's OUTRAGEOUS SPENDING. Obama by himself or a Democrat congress by itself can only do so much damage, but put them together, and man, they can almost single-handedly tear down an entire nation.

Our country has all ready proven what dummies in charge of the country can do. Give the Brainiac a chance dude. ;)
Are you calling Obama a Brainiac?

term limits are not the answer

eliminating apathy in this country is

MI has term limits. They do not work

Two words for you:

Citizen Legislators....THAT is what congressmen were originally called

We have gone beyond doing that job to benefit the country, we have created a life sentence of corruption, greed and apathy.

Make them think there job is on the line....And give me one good reason why term limits with congress, senate and the supreme court wouldn't work

Yeah we have moved away from what was intended.

As to term limits and why they do not work............... Michigan adopted that for its state senators and representatives several years ago. Once the original ones were term limited then what happened is the following.

representatives term limit out and become senators. while they move up the chain you have councilmen and county commissioners positioning themselves to move up the food chain. Meanwhile the staffers stay on for the most part. You end up with staffers and lobbyists driving the bus.

This is not my opinion but is what we have been told by our lobbyist. It has become so bad that they have head hunters for the parties looking for candidates.

The problem is that is an artificial system of checks and balances. What is needed is to remove all the perks so they will only want to work so many years or if it is in their blood stay on the job. Term limits would not be necessary were it not for voter apathy. Apathy in voters not bothering to vote and apathy in being ignorant of what is going on.

I can side with that:thumbup

Serving your contry should be incentive enough.

Getting pockets lined by lobbyists should be swiftly punished like any other ethical issue, and the pay should be normal raises and there should not be life long healthcare just because you served.

Right now, the reason people spend millions to run for congress and senate is because they know they will get it back ten fold;)

Its so easy to be critical of others. Can you guys get elected? And if you got elected and in his shoes what would you have done?

He probably should have thought about that before running for office. I personally cant stand the man. This bail out he speaks of do you know who pays for that? Us working people. The car companys are offering if you lose your job they will make payments for you... NO you and you and you and I will make those payments for them not the company. People have got to wake up and realize it wasnt great before but its alot worse now...

He got elected fair and square. Of ciourse there is opposition. You got to live with it for at least the next four years if not eight years.

Byron York:
On his 100th day in office, Barack Obama enjoys high job approval ratings, no matter what poll you consult. But if a new survey by the New York Times is accurate, the president and some of his policies are significantly less popular with white Americans than with black Americans, and his sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are.
