Why are all the nutjobs :p against developing a helth care system? (and, no, we do not have a health care system currently, especially private health care. It's a profit driven system, nothing to do with health)?

Again, I am not opposed to the idea, I'm opposed to the way they want to do it. There's absolutely no need for it to be a federal-run program. The State governments, imo, are far more likely to do a decent job of it. And then there would still be some competition in the system too. Don't like your state's plan? Then you have 49 other options you can go to.

Yet people from around the world in countries with "public" health care flock to the US for the quality of the care, technology, innovation and medicine. Why does the US have such a formidable lead in those areas? Perhaps because the companies that lead are in business to make a profit?

That has nothing to do with health care, but is a testiment of our advanced technology -- which is a benefit of all the money made from health type products. The thing is, what system do we establish to develop a health care system?
Without it it is as simple as this: you make money denying unhealthy people coverage, or charging more than the coverage is worth. from a health perspective, it doesn't work.

I agree with this point to an extent, which is why I'm not totally opposed to the government stepping in. What I am opposed to is the federal government stepping in, when in my opinion it would be much more effective for each state to come up with its own plan for increasing the availability of healthcare.

And you would do away with the very system that promotes such innovation. You would kill the goose that lays golden eggs.

Wow. You must be proud that people from around the world flock to the United States for healthcare... Even though around 50 million people actually living there can't get proper access to that treatment.

Yes, people do flock to the US for healthcare, rich people. Do you honestly think the other 99% of people living in public healthcare systems would even consider going to the US for treatment?... No.

International surveys rank the United States pretty low in quality of care. Only 30% of Americans can get a same day appointment with their doctor, compared with 42% of Australians and 55% of Germans.

Oh yes, and both those countries have evil government controlled healthcare.

The health care delivery system in the US needs reform. What Obama is doing is trashing it for the same shit that Canada and Britain has. No offense to those countries but if you are sick here the care is second to none when you get it. For the 85% that have that access it seems a reasonable concern that Obamas crappy idea will screw them.

So for those who are in favor of the Obmacare do you think it is acceptible for anybody to be subjected to reduced care so that the 15% can get their piece of the pie??

I can go to the doctors without having to worry about how I'm going to pay for it, for me personally, that beats what I could expect in the USA.

Hush now. They don't want to hear that.

It never ceases to amaze me that Americans slam our system when they don't know a fucking thing about it. They hear one bad story out of millions and they think it's a football game where they can grab the ball and run like hell. Let 'em wallow in their own shit while I see a doctor any time I like. It's a no matter me.

I didn't read your link.

I base my decisions about our system from my personal experiences. I've had enough of 'em to write a book.

As far as " the shit you wallow in " goes I base that on what I read. :D

Ok so I go to your link and discover it isn't one of our MP's.

I LIVE IN CANADA NOT EUROPE !

That said, I've read enough posts from Europeans on this site as well as others that their system isn't as bad as you would like to think it is. Nice try though. ;)

Got to wonder why Daniel Hannan sits as an MEP for a party that opposes his view on the NHS and whose leader distances himself from Hannans remarks about the NHS.
Hannan is just a loose cannon and his remarks are not shared by the vast majority of people who experience the NHS first hand.
Of course his view is going to be Fox's wet dream.

When you get it? More like if.

And second to none? Okay, maybe Bill Gates and Micheal Bloomberg might get world class treatment, but a working class family with basic health coverage? Ahh no.

So for those who are in favor of the Obmacare do you think it is acceptible for anybody to be subjected to reduced care so that the 15% can get their piece of the pie??

Uhm yeah.

16,000 people in the United States die each year because they can't get access to treatment, if that's the price the insured are willing to pay so that they don't have to put up with 'reduced care', then those people really need to take a long hard look at themselves.

It doesn't make sense for a healthcare system to have people that have lifetime coverage, but almost never visit the doctor. And at the same time have people with serious aliments that need regular medical treatment, but can't get it because they're not insured.

50 million uninsured is disgusting . If something like 3 million Australians didn't have adequate access to health care, i'd feel pretty guilty every time I went to visit my doctor.
