We're not very traditional - partially because before we moved to Germany we always ended up at the in-laws OR goat roped into some other crazy family shit... so, we've been a bit different this year.
For this evening (Christmas Eve), I made pan-seared sea scallops as an appetizer with a very nice Blanc Bordeaux. Husby made a spicy shrimp stir-fry with sweet onions, red peppers, grilled pineapple and a sweet/spicy citrus sauce. Plenty of expresso and pastry for dessert.
For Christmas Day, I'll start out with breakfast and make crepes stuffed with fresh banana and strawberries, crispy bacon, and yoghurt. We have a turkey breast that we've brined, and husby is going to smoke that for a couple of hours. I'm making individual ramekins of potato au gratin, along with a spicy sausage dressing, green salad, and home-baked baguette with whipped butter. Southern Comfort pound cake is for dessert.
We love to cook and this is the second year where we have been able to stay home and do our own thing. When we move back to the States, we will (thankfully) be too far away from the in-laws to visit over the holidays. So I anticipate being able to do what WE want instead of fumble-fucking around with people I don't want to run in to at a store - nevertheless spend my whole holiday with!!!
