If you were there in the summer you should have been able to see that big rock. Bellingham is a bit over a 1/2 hour drive from the border.
I took the shot from the top of a car park. It was partly sunny with clouds rolling past. I waited until a hole opened up and that's what I got.A fantastic shot. My first thought on seeing it was "woah" because it was just that good. Love it. Love the way the clouds on the right partly obscure the mountain too.
What time of year was that taken, Guyzerr?
Do people go skiing anywhere on that mountain?
Nope. The first one was taken with my Sigma 150 - 500 and the second with a Canon 70 - 200. The big difference is where I was when I took them. In the second shot I was probably 5 miles or so farther away. I tried to find some sort of map app where I could figure out the distance to the mountain from where I was as the crow flies but so far I haven't been able to come up with anything. What I do know is it's quite a distance in miles. I'm actually quite surprised about something in the first shot. The row of trees in the foreground are probably at best a few hundred yards away from me and the mountain is miles away. The DOF turned out pretty good. Are you using an UWA lens on both, Guyzerr?
I missed them for over 20 years. It won't happen again because I'm never moving away from here again.*sigh* I miss seeing the year round snow capped mountains of the motherland know as western Washington
Tuff I figured it out with my truckers atlas.
These distances are " as the crow flies ". In the first shot I was 27 1/2 miles from the stone. In the second shot I was 22 miles away.![]()
Nope.Must of been using your TC with it, even I can't get 22miles reach with my 55-250 lens:ninja
This is my favorite shot for a few reasons....
- The entire hill is in the shot
- I like how clear the shot itself is
- There are no clouds surrounding it
- The sun is high enough so there are very few shadows
- There is minimal smog and that is an extremely rare occasion as I'm sure you're aware.
:homo: From an artistic point of view the first one is better. I miss mountains. I'm going to see mountains in two and a half weeks!Gotcha. Thanks for sharing that pic too! I far prefer your first shot with clouds as it brings a certain 'mood' to the picture. I like the second shot for its clarity but that's it.
