If you were there in the summer you should have been able to see that big rock. Bellingham is a bit over a 1/2 hour drive from the border.

I know Canada is right next to Bellingham, when I was over there, I never had the opportunity to go there, I was babysitting for an aunt of mine :mad:mad:mad

A fantastic shot. My first thought on seeing it was "woah" because it was just that good. Love it. Love the way the clouds on the right partly obscure the mountain too.

I took the shot from the top of a car park. It was partly sunny with clouds rolling past. I waited until a hole opened up and that's what I got.

Gimme a few minutes and I'll show you what the whole hill looks like. :)

This is my favorite shot for a few reasons....
- The entire hill is in the shot
- I like how clear the shot itself is
- There are no clouds surrounding it
- The sun is high enough so there are very few shadows
- There is minimal smog and that is an extremely rare occasion as I'm sure you're aware.

What time of year was that taken, Guyzerr?

Late spring. In the later part of the summer even though lots of snow is gone a lot has melted away.

Do people go skiing anywhere on that mountain?

Yes and no. There is an area they call Mt.baker ski area :p but it's not on the mountain. It's to the left of the mountain and is considerably lower in altitude.

Are you using an UWA lens on both, Guyzerr?
Nope. The first one was taken with my Sigma 150 - 500 and the second with a Canon 70 - 200. The big difference is where I was when I took them. In the second shot I was probably 5 miles or so farther away. I tried to find some sort of map app where I could figure out the distance to the mountain from where I was as the crow flies but so far I haven't been able to come up with anything. What I do know is it's quite a distance in miles. I'm actually quite surprised about something in the first shot. The row of trees in the foreground are probably at best a few hundred yards away from me and the mountain is miles away. The DOF turned out pretty good.

Tuff I figured it out with my truckers atlas.

These distances are " as the crow flies ". In the first shot I was 27 1/2 miles from the stone. In the second shot I was 22 miles away. :D

Gotcha. Thanks for sharing that pic too! I far prefer your first shot with clouds as it brings a certain 'mood' to the picture. I like the second shot for its clarity but that's it.

:homo: From an artistic point of view the first one is better. I miss mountains. I'm going to see mountains in two and a half weeks! :D
