I'll be straight with everyone, my time is stretched too thin to maintain the site. I will not have a site that just sits around doing nothing for anyone... and because I've not spent any time on the forums there lately or had help with any articles it is not productive.

Why would someone want to come to MM for tech advice when they can get more responses at a place like MF? They won't, so unless MM can offer them a reason to come (like tech articles) then the site will never grow. I can't provide the support the site needs right now, plain and simple.

Bottom line... unless someone qualified and motivated steps up to the plate and wants to admin MM, the forums will be closed and the site will be too until I have time to fill the site with articles, how-to's etc. I cannot accept the fact the site has not lived up to my expectations.

This may be the last breath MM takes.

Maybe somebody will step up, I hope so. My goal for MM was to have a huge collaboration of how-to's, articles, performance calculators, etc. That just can't happen without help. Members have to submit most of those things, and someone has to put them on web pages. I want to do it and I've spent some time on it... but Im embarassed that its sitting there incomplete. Either all or nothing, I won't have a half ass site.

to be light hearted, god, i thought you created stuff in 7 days... :dunno

i dont want to spoil your enthusiaism (sp?) joe, and any others, but when something is new(mm.com), but also competes against something already established (mf.com), it is be difficult. id do it, except i dont have the knowledge... well, i know minimal html, but that doesnt get anywhere really these days. i know vb6, which is more features than vbscript, but vbscript is not used much, because of javascript and java... and i have no idea how the phpbb forum software works... and the knowledge i have just wont cut it...

if i were you joe, id do a little test to test god's skills to see what he knows and how well he applies his knowledge...

RE: ModdedMustangs.com in a crisis

I want someone willing to take control and build MM into a dominate web presence. Someone that would run the site as their own, someone wanting the opportunity - not doing it to be helpful. Promoting, building, growing, posting, etc.

There will be alot of time required, those with limited time need not apply. Theirs little glamour but alot of respect that will go out the person chosen for the job.

It takes more than ability to get the job done, I'm more concerned with dedication than knowledge.

Php or other programming skills aren't required, neither is advanced html.

The structure is already there, the need is someone with the capability of learning dreamweaver and having a desire to make something great.

What does MF have? I'll tell you... a bunch of people that don't know what their doing telling a bunch of other people who don't know what their doing how to do things. They have a large group of users, and an over commercialized whacked out full of ads place. What do they have to offer... nothing except people.

What does it take to build a successful website / forum? You've got to offer people something that nobody else can. Tech Advice? Theirs a few good sites for tech already. Conversation? Well MF has that covered or OT.

For MM to be the most successful Mustang site on the net its gonna have to offer something nobody else has... A resource for how-to's, articles, maybe doing something similar to Car-domain for showing off members cars, strong tech advice and a great core of main posters. All that can be offered, but not without someone taking it under their wing.

Well, I've told you this before and I know you don't want to hear it, but the site needs revenue or the posability of future revenue so an Admin can get a percentage which will give him/her incentive. unfortunately people can't survive on rainbows and kisses. Well, maybe kisses from Verni might work.

RE: ModdedMustangs.com in a crisis

Can they do the job (ability to do it or willing to learn)
Will they do the job (have the time and desire)
Will they stay (someone dedicated)

If you can answer these three questions, email me.

I'll offer incentives, thats not a problem. If the site grows I don't have a problem with sponsors either. I do, however, have a problem with google ads. Do know though Im not looking to "hire" someone. This isn't a job, but there is expectations.

Well, what if, once a certain amount off member were obtained, the site started accepting contributions? I know that I would be willing to contribute and many others have already offered. Contributions would bring in revenue without the need to advertise. We could use the revenue brought in by the contributions as incentive for the Admin and also to buy the things we that we talk about having like t-shirts and banners. We could have a giveaway once a month where one active member is picked to recieve a free shirt or a banner or whatever kind of things we had to offer.

RE: ModdedMustangs.com in a crisis

Considering I own server space and unlimited bandwidth... it doesnt really cost me anything but $8 a year to keep the domain name. Im not comfortable accepting donations for something I love doing. Now, as the site grew I'd be more willing to entertain things like that.

I've learned that I cannot do it by myself, that you must have a strong core of people around the site to grow it and contribute.

Hell, you see how bad it is now... Im over here on OT talking about it and not there... Im not in it to make money. I like what Booze has done with getting sponsors involved with giveaways, etc. its great for the members. I'd love to do something like that but you can't just walk up to a business and ask them for it. You have to build the site with a strong member base before you can think about things like sponsors.
