Moammar Gadhafi and Libya

I remember back in the 1980s he was the face of terrorism. Now the people of Libya want a new government. It seems the days of the tyrant are few and far between. Difference here is that Gadhafi wants to remain in power until he dies (so he could be deemed a martyr)

Looks like Gadhafi said he will crush the protesters. Reports are coming in that he used military aircraft to fire on them already. There are also reports of antiaircraft guns being shot into the crowds...

This is going to get very ugly, very, very ugly

the massacres are saddening.

there are 3 possible scenarios

a massive bloodbath permitting qaddafi to seize back lybia
a massive bloodbath permitting qaddafi to preserve his rule over a part of lybia, causing a division in the country
the revolutionaries liberating lybia after a massive bloodbath.

hopefully it's the 3rd scenario.

4. One of the many militant/extremist groups in the area seizing control in the chaos.

He WILL hold on until the bitter end, but there is no way in hell that he can retain control. The world won't stand by while he slaughters his own people. The world just doesn't have the stomach for it right now.

He's already been sanctioned to high hell. That's why Libya is in such a shit state of affairs.
Are you talking about an invasion? That's another option, but it completely defeats the point of their revolution..

I say just stay out of it, we've got our own problems.

I agree that we should stay out of it for the most part... But if he embarks on a wholesale slaughter of his people, the world won't sit idly by... at least that's my impression

anyone think he'll leave libya and be tried for crimes against humanity?
I'm thinking it's just a matter of time that someone within his own military will say enough is enough and put a bullet in his head. Wishful thinking or a possibility?

no, these scenarios are western myths.

Really? Lebanon? Iran? You don't think groups such as Hezbollah would love to step in and up their political power by "bringing stability" to the area? Riiiighhhhttttt.... There's always someone looking to take advatage of other people's misfortunes in all parts of the world.
