If any of us went back 1,000 years to an "English" speaking region (even if there was such a thing back then, not too polished on my linguistic history), we wouldn't understand much.

Conversely, if we went ahead 1,000 years to the future, we wouldn't understand much either.

Like everything else, language evolves. Get used to it.

Again, just because it's inconsiderate of a superior doesn't mean it shouldn't be included in the English language. At least IMO. I mean, you wouldn't go calling your superior an idiot, but that word is still in the dictionary...

Didn't mean to confuse, but I am the superior in this case. When I hear my troops say meh after I give them a direct order to do something, that to me is like saying "fuck you" And they are dealt with accordlingly.

Ok, so deal with them. But that still doesn't make a case as to why it shouldn't be included as a defined word in our language... if people use it, then it's a word, right? I haven't looked it up, but I imagine f*** is in the dictionary too.

Lol, whether a person wants to be ignorant is up to the person themselves... I don't think we should disclude a word from the English language just because it's distasteful. Otherwise we'd have many more words that weren't defined but in daily use.

We need to look at the purpose of language and dictionaries to decide whether a word should include them.

Language is for communication (obviously). Does "Meh" communicate something? Yes, as Mike pointed out, it communicates that you don't care, or have no opinion about something.

Dictionaries are for defining words or phrases that are in use to help us better understand their use. Is there a particular way the word "Meh" should be used, and is it currently in use? Yes, and it can be defined by a definition similar to the one given above.

I'd say any word or "sound" that is useful for communication, can be clearly defined, and is in common use should be included in the English language and the dictionary.

I agree with every word.

lets hear it for the word "cunt" :clap
Hear hear!:clap

Good lord somebody needs to take calm down. Oh trust me I can put together a sentence with ease.

Also just thought I would point out it's "you're" not "your" like you typed in your last sentence on your previous post.

One more thing, this is an internet forum. One should not expect to find perfect grammar and proper sentence structure on here. I save that for the papers I have to write for classes (I bet you're surprised that I am getting an education). So please give it a rest.

I do not see the problem. The dictionary isnt supposed to be a good "read", nor is it supposed to define rules of what is the proper grammar to use in a sentence. All it is is there for is to define words in the english language. People say 'meh'. Some people may not understand it. Whats the harm in letting someone have a source of an accurate definition?
