What is so far left about Obama? I'm not completely informed but from what I've seen, Obama is just left, how can you describe him as far left, is he a communist or something?
Obama = Far Left
Bush = Far Right

Clinton and McCain are your more balanced politicians representing each party.

I guess anyone who has sympathy for the working class is far left. Another reason to avoid the far right.

Today McCain made a speech questioning Obama's intent to revisit the NAFTA- North American Free Trade Agreement as harmfull to small business owners. Two points:

1) He's more worried about the owners than the workers.
2) As far as I know most of the benefit to NAFTA has come from factories and corporations moving their operations South of the border. Small business owners as far as I know are not really in the same league although I can see some of them going out of the country for whatever products they want to sell. Still another case of U.S. workers taking one in the teeth for business.

I guess it's how you look at it. To me -

Communists = far left
Parties like the BNP (British National Party) = far right.

Have a look into the BNP sometime, even Bush seems like a moderate compared to them! ;)

I'm talking about what is far left and far right as it pertains to our voting system ... not anyone else's. Another country's definition of far left or right is not going to make a bit of difference to me when I vote.

If you want to understand far left and far right in how it effects the US. Look up democrat platform and republican platform. The stronger they adhere to their platform/the more rigid they are in sticking stringently to that platform ... means the more far left or far right they are.

I do not care for either platform. I like a combination of the two that leans more toward the conservative side. I am not a registered republican or democrat. I'm a registered Centrist, but I vote for the PERSON, not the party. And character matters more to me than anything else. Are a person's intentions sincere? Do they come from the heart? Because people are never going to find a politician they agree with 100% of the time. At least if you know their character, you are more apt to trust them that they are at least sincerely trying to do what is right.

I liked Obama, until he lost my trust.

BTW, what is the evidence that Obama is far left?
I already posted what makes him far left in my opinion. See above posts.

What did Obama do to lose your trust?
I promise you that there is no way you can go to church for 20 years and not know that your Pastor and all of your brothers and sisters in Christ are basically racist and believe and cheer on the crap that was spewed out of that Pastor's mouth. The only way one could not have known it is if they truly were not involved in their church but put on the facade like they were, which is deceiving within itself. So either way that does not sit well with me at all. And imo that speaks to the core of his character and his heart. I am glad that he has chose to distance himself from it and speak out about it, but at this point I don't know if it was just a career move for him to speak out. It seems transparent that it was.

Well sorry, I've just never heard Obama talking about introducing collective farms and taking rich peoples property off them. Maybe you could show me some evidence of this?

Ah, exaggeration for emphasis, seem to see a lot of people doing that round here. Shame it dosen't make the point they intended because it's hard to take someone serious when they keep spouting crap.

Character is what's shown when the public is not looking.

The wife John McCain callously left behind | Mail Online

Character? What does the story of his first wife say about his character?

When McCain – his hair turned prematurely white and his body reduced to little more than a skeleton – was released in March 1973, he told reporters he was overjoyed to see Carol again.
But friends say privately he was ‘appalled’ by the change in her appearance. At first, though, he was kind, assuring her: ‘I don’t look so good myself. It’s fine.’

....But already the McCains’ marriage had begun to fray. ‘John started carousing and running around with women,’ said Robert Timberg.

...In 1979 – while still married to Carol – he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage.
Carol and her children were devastated. ‘It was a complete surprise,’ says Nancy Reynolds, a former Reagan aide.
‘They never displayed any difficulties between themselves. I know the Reagans were quite shocked because they loved and respected both Carol and John.’
Another friend added: ‘Carol didn’t fight him. She felt her infirmity made her an impediment to him. She justified his actions because of all he had gone through. She used to say, “He just wants to make up for lost time.”’...

So in a nut shell, he marries a swimsuit model, goes to war, she gets disfigured in car crash, he comes home, runs around with younger hotter women, hooks up with model with mega rich parents, divorces disfigured first wife and move on to greener pastures.
Holy shit, that's some good character right there....

Do you have anything a little more recent, say not from 40 years ago and not off the gossip rags Tim?

I don't know if it's true or not but if it's true, do you consider it out of bounds? As a dedicated Christian I thought you're group looked down on this sort of activity? You know like when Newt was hammering B.Clinton for his bjob while his (Newt's) wife was in the hospital with cancer and he was having an affair...

it was 29 years ago, and this goes straight to the character of the man... Yes it is still relevant.
