Loved Ones in Prison

Pimp just called
he's out of sloitary
he was in for a fight
he said he didn't want to hit the other kid
but everyone was standing around
prison politics. etc
(Pimp has never been in a fight before)
he accidentally knocked the kid out
then felt so bad
and picked him
and put him back in his bunk
he says this won't effect his parole
they didn't give hm my letters while he was in there
and wouldn't give him any envelopes
so he could write me

He has to take up for himself in there tho. It's a must or things will be hard for him.

I am disturbed. I just found this. I talked to Pimp last night, and he didn't say anything about it. He just sounded depressed.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) Corrections officials say a state prison inmate has died of an apparent suicide.

Twenty-six-year-old Webster Running was found unresponsive in a cell at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Tyndall. An autopsy is planned.

Running was sentenced in 2006 to eight years in prison on a drug charge out of Lincoln County.

Pimp called this morning
and I asked him about the suicide and why didn't he tell me before?

he said that the guy was in another remote part of the prison
he never met him
and that it's a common thing there
to do yourself in

some guys have no family or friends on the outside
to keep them going
and things look so hopeless

some even do things to make their prison stay longer

this is so terribly sad

on another note,
Pimp said the sausage there is nasty
he had oatmeal with peanut butter swirled in it for breakfast

I'm sorry that you miss your son. That said, I feel no sympathy for him whatsoever. Burglars and thieves are the scum of the earth. He's a man and he made decisions that he'll have to live with. From the look of him, and from the little I know about his criminal past, I think it's fair to label the kid as a hoodlum. I hope he learned his lesson in prison, but that virtually never happens, so I wouldn't count on it. My only sympathy goes out to his loved ones who have to put up with his decisions and are heartbroken.

He just made a couple of bad choices which we are all guilty of doing sometimes. This doesn't make him a bad person.

This is what is wrong with society right here. "Bad choices" are getting into a fight. Cheating on a test. Pissing into the wind. This kid is a criminal, end of story. He made the decision, time and time again to break into businesses and steal. These are not just "bad choices".

I feel genuine sympathy for the pain that you're going through, but, with all due respect, your opinion is moot - you're his mother and will defend your son to the end of the earth (as you should). From an outsiders point of view and a former cop, and victim of a burglary, however, my opinion is very different.

How many mistakes, or examples of being a less-than-ideal member of society does one need to display before being labeled a fuckup? The fact that you call him "Pimp" probably doesn't help either.
