I think, they were all dead at that stage (having died at different times but there is no time after you die kind of a thing) I think the "lives" they were living were things that they would have wanted to sort out in their actual lives. Like Jack having a son to act out his father issues, sawyer being a cop instead of a criminal etc etc.

I suppose the last episode in particular did lend itself to that especially with Jack saying he died and his dad saying it's ok that he was dead/died too.

The door leading to the clichéd white light made me think that they were still alive where usually I suppose the white light is presented as the gateway to those that have just died. Still, I enjoyed it overall - I didn't get the feeling you did of redundancy within seasons and whatnot. Perhaps I'm just a fanboi!

I did love the series itself, don't get me wrong, I just felt that they had an ending originally but changed it so they could draw the whole thing out because it got so popular

I fucking hated that show. We decided to watch the entire thing on net flix. I started out liking it, but then it crept into the inane, stayed there, and like a train wreck, by then it was too late to stop watching.

That show had a vibe that is hard to reproduce. I was so in love with the setting and premise, that I did not care if it moved slowly, although I admit to being aggravated when the got off the island and then decided to go back... I started to rewatch the series on Netflicks but got bogged down. I don't think I have the energy to watch it all again.

I'm convinced all that was filler stuff, to drag the series out for a couple of extra seasons
