I was checking my grades and I found the dress code...

Students should be dressed in a clean, modest and appropriate manner at school. When dress or hairstyles become so extreme as to be disruptive to the educational process or beyond the bounds of good taste, appropriate action on an individual basis will be taken.

No old ugly hair styles allowed at OUR school, you better remember to wear your hair down or it's a lunch detention!

School rules are made to be broken... I remember when the rolled up pant leg was in fasion in the hip hop crowd, the vice principal was going around school giving anyone with a rolled up pant leg detention because he thought it was gang related. So everyone in the upper classes rolled up their pant legs. My boy Mike used to wear a fro and braids to school.

I had a debate in my Child psychology class in college about baggy clothes in schools some women were saying if id dressed the way i dressed at that current time in their high school id of probably been suspended. What a crock of shit.

- They take away from individuality
- They prevent people from wearing clothes they like
- Sometimes they can be uncomfortable
- Clothes aren't the only reason people get bullied
- They often don't have that much impact on people wearing inapropriate clothes ( example: girls often roll up their skirts to make them shorter)
- They can be expensive

I actually agree with this - One time the Americans have actually got it right (did I just say that!):willy_nilly: ;)

First off I am in 9th grade and here 9th grade still means Jr. High and it's stupid to wear uniforms in high school anyways!

9th grade? Im in year 10.

But it also can prevent some bullying caused by what people wear.

If you get the right size they are fine.
- Clothes aren't the only reason people get bullied
Ah yes, but uniforms can eliminate some bullying that happens due to clothes even if its not the only reason.

Schools can have a say in how short that skirts can be EG. My school say that the skirts cannot be above the knee.
- They can be expensive
True, but they last.

I can't afford expensive clothes... but I would rather wear a walmart t-shirt than a uniform, *shrugs* I have been bullied for other reasons... but no one ever seems to bully about clothes, kids are more understanding on seem things like that then most people understand.

I used to get the shit kicked out of me every day at school because of my clothes. We were poor and kids had an eagle eye for the wrong clothes, even if there was a uniform. Explain that to me, please?

Ummm, people just didn't like you??? :jk Seriously, I don't know.

but you don't... peoples egos still remain no matter if you take away certain status symbols or not.

Actually I didn't say it took care of the problems...I just said it takes away some of the status symbols. ;) Of course egos still remain and there will always be those who live in the ritzy areas of town and those who live in the ghetto and, unless your school is like mine was, those people tend to not get along.

Generally bullying can happen around anything. Clothing has been an issue in the past anbd uniforms help eliminate this at school, not out of school but at least during school hours.
