TimesOnLine article.

An anti-immigration law condemned as a licence for racial profiling is expected to come into force in Arizona within the next 48 hours. The law would be the first in the US to give police the power to stop citizens and demand proof of legal residence in the US merely on suspicion of not carrying appropriate papers.
Good or bad? Definitely bad if you freedom lovers love your freedom.

I can't imagine that would pass... But racial profiling happens everyday. I see it here a lot. You get people coming up here because cost of living and drugs are cheaper.

is it racial profiling just because they are stopping latinos? or are they stopping everyone?

how is it racial?

they have had a huge problem with crime and illegal mexicans lately. Racists or not, it's a fact.

What does that have to do with anything...

and they are only stopping people who look like they are illegal aliens. That sure as hell won't be me. So yes, it's racial.

because the crime rate is high with illegal mexican immigrants, therefore maybe it is racist, but maybe it is well founded

if all they're doing is stopping people and asking them for their ID, I think it would be a necessary evil until the crime rate goes down.

So I can be a blond haired blue eyed drug dealer and have no worries. But if I am a law abiding latino I better make sure I have my ID with me at all times so I don't get thrown in jail.

How does checking peoples ID's cut down the crime rate?

-3 Somehow I don't think you are kidding. :smiley24:

Who do you think they are going to stop? I'd say hispanics, any hispanics they feel like. The next upgrade, we'll have a law that says the police can stop anyone who looks suspicious, then most of the posters in the forum will be at risk.

No state or local agency has the authority to enforce US Immigration Policy, now matter how many laws or ordinances they pass to try to convince themselves they do.

Long legal battle, here we come...

Don't these people look at history? Has anyone heard of Prince William County in Virginia?
They passed this exact same law and it not only drove out the illegals, it drove out nearly the entire Latino community. This caused financial devastation to the entire county. Businesses that had low profit margins went out of business because of the drop in business. Foreclosures went through the roof once the "renters" left. Schools had to lay off teachers when their class sizes dropped and to say money with the lost property tax.
It wasn't long before the business owners begged the council to overturn this law, and they did.,

I think there's a real problem in the US with Illegal Aliens but no amount of Laws like this can fix the problem. They need to get our borders under control first and start keeping them out then focusing on the right way to make Illegals Legal...

if the crime is being caused by illegals, then I would say checking ID's would do a lot.

That's what I was assuming. Just making sure that's why it's racist.

lol...they already have a law that says cops can stop anyone who looks suspicious! and the cops would be right to stop some of us :ninja

I'm not for racist legislation, but what else can we do about rising crime caused by illegal immigrants?

they aren't in the system, have no legal address or known identity...it's a problem.

I don't think it's very cool, but I'd certainly like them to come here and try to run atleast 50% of the illegals out of here. I don't know how many girls I've talked to lately, but a lot of them are complaining because their BF is in jail because he's an illegal immigrant. Get em out of the damn jails and send em back. Put more security at the border as well as maybe an invisible fence that will shock anyone that walks over it. They wouldn't need a collar or anything. However, the ones working would need to wear something that would absorb the shock or shut it down long enough for them to cross over it if they need to.

Oh yea...I'm going to invent that! lol

Exactly! It has to start with more damn protection around the borders. I lived in Arizona and saw these illegals crossing into the US about 15 years ago. They still do it now. How can you control something that has escalated to what we have unless you stop them from coming in first?

so they will stop every single person to make you feel safe

not to make me feel safe. to make society safe.

cops can already stop you for looking suspicious

if they think you look like an illegal, then why shouldn't they also have the right to stop you?

What does an "illegal" look like? How can you identify them from a Latino born in Arizona?

no clue.

but I also don't know how to say that some is looking suspicious

what i am saying is that if cop's already have the right to stop something for looking suspicious, (which often translates to poor or black) then why can't they stop some one for suspicion of being an illegal?

i mean shit if they come across a chinaman that doesn't speak english in arizona, then i guess they can ask him for ID too.
