Fear and loathing is Las Vegas. Seriously, what was the point of this pile of shite? I got lent it and told it was like an American version of Withnail and I. It dosent deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as that classic. Reminded me more of the most over rated film ever, Easy Rider.

I agree with you and I'm a solid Hunter S. Thompson fan (author of the novel with the same title). There is no way to understand the book or movie without looking into Thompson's life and his work as a free lance journalist.

I think the point is a stab at the counter culture that seemed to believe that taking mind altering drugs was the way to cure and/or live with/ignore societies woes. It's a stoof and stab at the stoners. Neither the mindless film nor the novel brought that point across but Thompson talks about it in that light in his essays. I think he needed the money from the book and film sales, as well.

IMO, the same message was lost on the general populus in the movie "Easy Rider." So many young people were so enamored with the drug culture that they failed to see the ramifications of their stupid and somewhat self destructive actions. Hunter was not fond of the "hippie" counter culture; altho, he was a drug taker himself.

That Evening Sun with Hal Holbrook

"An aging Tennessee farmer returns to his homestead and must confront a family betrayal, the reappearance of an old enemy, and the loss of his farm."

Sad.

Was the remake any good? I'm a big fan of the orignal film and the book and I just don't know if I want to watch the remake and risk getting angry.

I thought it was good, but my idea of good could be different to yours :p I thought the kids in it acted pretty well, some really cool scenes in it too. I've never seen the original but.

Let The Right One In (Swedish Version)- :thumbdown If this movie ranks an averge 8 at IMDB, I am pretty far out on a limb but I thought it was pretty bad- disjointed, no tension, not scary, characters I did not care about, a dud of climax. And I love vampire movies. Can't recommend it. :(

I love Let The Right One In. It's a very good adaptation of the book.

I watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang this morning.

you're kidding, right?

Fear and Loathing was AMAZING! One of the few films a hundred times better than the book. I preferred it to Withnail and I. Far more interesting.

I suppose you've got to be a fan of the book to appreciate the film. Johnny Depp makes the performance of his life in that one. I loved it, watched it dozens of times and it gets better with every view!

What's so interesting about it? All that happens is two guys get high for a couple of hours. It's not even very funny.

While I would never expect everyone to "love" Easy Rider, it was the first counter culture movie I remember seeing. I like this description of it:

A landmark counterculture film,[2] and a "touchstone for a generation" that "captured the national imagination",[3] Easy Rider explores the societal landscape, issues, and tensions in the United States during the 1960s, such as the rise and fall of the hippie movement, drug use, and communal lifestyle.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easy_Rider#cite_note-making_of-3

The success of Easy Rider helped spark the New Hollywood phase of filmmaking during the late sixties.

It might have been the first counter culture film but it was boring as sin. What exactly happened? 2 hippies ride around on motorbikes and then get shot by rednecks is literally all that happens.

You kinda sound like me describing "The Road". Well, the viewer gets to listen to rock'n roll and they have experiences before being murdered. You are either into it or not... ;)

Read the book, seen the film.

Never finished the film, tried 3 times. I can't stand it.

I'm not being funny, but I think you have to be a druggy to 'get' it.
