BTW, I have found that you will pay a premium for going to a local place like Office Depot, Best Buy or Staples. I can usually find a better machine for much less on-line. I have bought my last few systems off of TigerDirect and haven't had a single problem... :dunno

TigerDirect is right down the street from me :)

Definitely purchase one online and not in a local store though!

I bought the Acer, thanks Tim! Shipping was cheap...I expected like $20 or something...it was $8.97
Hopefully all goes well from here! I may have just stepped out of the 90's with this purchase :24:
I see I'm late. Glad you got good info. I really like my netbook for the size. I also downloaded Open Office. Just remember to save your file as an Office documentf (Word, Excel, etc) so that the other guy can open it. The lack of disc drive hasn't been a problem because everybody has their software available to download nowadays.

I fixed the problem of the small screen at home by getting a larger screen and plugging it in. I also have a full-size wireless keyboard and mouse, so that when I'm at home it's exactly like having my old desktop. Best of both worlds, if you ask me.

I hope it all works out for you... I don't think I would like getting negative rep from you if this goes south ;)

I ordered the laptop and the thing ended up on my porch in two days lol. Quite impressive, though UPS ground just apparently threw it on the porch without a word. My mom is essentially an invalid so I rushed home lol.

With only minor issues I set everything up with the wireless internet. It's great so far!! The laptop is much higher quality than I would have expected. Hm maybe I should copy this and make a review on the website :p

A lot of netbooks have rubbish keyboards and touchpads...if you're considering going for a netbook, make sure you go to a local computer retail store and try out the netbooks they have on sale. Netbooks aren't that powerful but for your requirements they would be fine. Laptops are quite cheap nowadays, I've heard laptops being sold at around $349 before...so if you can afford spending upwards of $349 - $400, I'd consider getting a cheap laptop from Best Buy or another retail store.

Absolutely! Even if you're gong to order it online, check out the keyboard at a store first. That's what I did. You'll be surprised how different they are.
