Alot of time you can put them into an external enclosure and get your media that way....if the disk still spins up and no major head crash is involved

Yea I'm thinking that it's not spinning though that's the problem. I know there's a violent twist I could do to possibly get it going again, but I was pretty iffy about that since I've never done it before. I'd rather someone who knows how to do that for me. Hopefully he gets them. I just heard it beeping at me this morning and my heart dropped. I re-seated it and still nothing.

The less you mess with it the better you are at this point...hopefully your friend can get it spun up with the inertia method
