This has the potential to be the worst hurricane ever, so those sticking it out will most likely be blasted straight to hell. On the news they have said that TONS of people are staying. It's because they don't know whats coming. They have had hurricanes before and they have been fine, so they assume they will be safe this time too.

What I was wondering is, what about like Nursing home pts, people in hospitals, etc. Are they going to evacuate them too?
And correct me if I wrong, but, dont most people down there commute, so therefore, alot of people dont have cars to get the hell outta there?

Thousands dont have cars down there, its a very friendly place to walk or take a cab or street car

They are being shelterd in teh superdome... they are expecting 40thousand+.... and when power goes out thats gotta be scarey in tehre, and hten teh ac goes and till head up like a oven fomr all teh body heat

i hope they know how to swim, and tread water... :tard

Even if they swam, they would die from debris flying through the air that fast. A rock would easily go through their head. Even if somehow they didn't get hit, they would be poisoned. The water would be full of petroleum by-products, and all kinds of nasty and hazardous wastes from nearby facilities. So no matter what, they are all fucked if it floods.

And Mrs, Philly is right. They are taking refuge in the Superdome. Eldery, and disabled were allowed in before anyone else this morning.

This is why we aren't leaving. I feel for southern Mississippi, though. They look like they're about to get their shit fucked. I am where the conveniently placed BLACK DOT is. Good ol' Ft. Polk, LA.

Well you will be fine, unless the storm gets a kick in the ass all of the sudden and keeps moving northwest. I read that the winds could still have effect up to 100 miles away though, not horribly bad but noticable.

So, how do things look down there? I hope not quite as bad as first expected…although, it seems to be far from over just yet. I know they are saying the winds are a bit less than they were, and now it’s a cat 4 instead of 5. Lots of people are without electric, which was of course expected. Those news guys that stand outside so we can see it are NUTZ!!! You wouldn’t catch me out there!!!
