Apart from two forged documents by contemporaneous secular historians and the Bible, there is no evidence for the existence of the Jesus described in the Christian Bible. Everything we know about this character is from second or third hand 'hearsay' accounts.

Question for debate.
Was Jesus Christ man or myth?

Stop making so many damn threads. Jesus Christ is a myth. It's a fact. There is no evidence that states his existance.

Why not??

There is evidence that states his existence...the Bible for one! It's whether that evidence can be independently and objectively verified that is in question. IMO it can't.

Get your head out of the bible and focus on the point here. Jesus does not exist. It's all lies created by the Christians.

Thee is a hell of a lot of proof that a great man called Jesus existed. Whether he was THAT great or the son on God is very debatable!

I, too, am an atheist & I think that you would have a very hard time trying to prove that Jesus did not exist. There are not a lot of references to him & that is partly because the Rabbis of the time thought of him as a rebel (which he was) & a criminal, who undermined their authority (which he did), so they did little to push his agenda.

I do believe that JC lived, but I am undecided whether he was the leader of a rebellious group or he was the dupe who took the blame for everything. JC & his little band did everything they could to convince the average Jew that he was the son of God & it may have worked a little too well for him. The people were expecting a Messiah & I don't think it was that hard to give them one based on the hard times they were living in.

Well no, it can't be proven that he didn't exist...any more than it can be proven that gods don't exist. All that can be shown is that there is no evidence that he did....and as that is the case, why would one believe that he did?

Where?

Are we talking about Jesus the man or Jesus Christ of Biblical fame? I do tend to separate the two. If Jesus existed then I like you, I think he was nothing more than some kind of itinerant rabble rousing rabbi who overstepped the mark. Jesus Christ, Son of God on the other hand...nope!

If there's no evidence of something existing, that doesn't prove it doesn't exist. Just shows that its a theory. There's not enough evidence to be sure of whether Jesus is a man or a myth, so currently, he's just a theory.

Yes, theories are debatable. But not worth arguing about as if the theory were fact or fiction.

You misunderstood my point. You can agree and disagree with a theory, and have reasons for that. But beleiving the theory is fact or fiction and arguing with that point of view kinda makes it out of hand, like a lot of atheists and christians do.

Oh I agree that you can or cannot prove or disprove Jesus. The stuff people throw up to back up their belief is interesting though and thus we get an interesting debate.;)
