To clarify more on my previous post:
All of my kids are well behaved (say yes ma'm and no ma'm, straight A's, helpful, courteous, etc.). Even though my kids stay with me when shopping, they may want to look at something 10 feet away from me. This is not a long distance and is acceptable, but in a crowded store/area people can get in between you and your child even in that short of a distance. I've used the harnesses approx. 3 times because I felt there was a heightened need of awareness in the environments (Sporting event & Christmas shopping) that I used them in for the children's own safety. It keeps people from walking between you and your child. My kids were in between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 when I use them, an age where communication is still largely developing.
My point is that not all parents that choose to use a harness with their child are lazy parents that have disobedient, unruly kids. Many parents that have used them are very conscientious parents with well behaved children that they simply just don't want anything happening to their kids if they can in anyway prevent it ... like me.
