I've used the kid leashes before on my 2nd and 3rd child in large crowds. (sporting events, Christmas shopping, etc.) It is hard to handle bags, purse, stroller and 3 children in a large crowd and I'll be damned if I'm going to let them out of my sight and something happen to them.

Bark away.

Things have changed sooooo much since I was a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's. Even in the 80's and most of the 90's I never saw child leashes. It just seems so condescending and humiliating, in my opinion.

I agree. I grew up in the 70's and never saw them either. Times a changing, some things are better, but many are not unfortunately.

I agree with them really, but yeah, times have changed drastically since those earlier yrs. I had my son on a harness when we walked out and about. You only having to be turning from them for literally a few secs, to get yr purse to pay in the shops, to get something down from shelves in the shops etc etc, then they are gone, either by wandering or even worse taken. It only takes seconds. When they are so little, you need them to stay safe.:) Harnesses are the best thing I think. Children are too precious to have something go wrong. You can't take any chances at all.

There's often a fine line between insensitive and hilarious. I do believe you're on the right side of that line :D

My leash was my either my mom or my dad's hand. Even if we were in a crowded area. I couldn't leave their hands, but If I wanted to see something they usually took me over to look at whatever it was I wanted to see. In my case it was usually toys or something. I don't think the leashes are a good idea.

i dont like the harnesses...wouldnt use em or let anyone else use em on kylie either. If you cant watch my kid without treating her like an animal then you shouldnt be watching her to begin with.

def no offense meant to other parents who use em, and not judging anyone who does...but i just dont like em'

I personally think its just mean looking. I mean some kids are more wilder than some and I guess I got lucky on that part that mine werent wild children and always stayed close by

I could see the use of them in crowded places.
Wasn't an option until just a few years ago.
Certainly wasn't considered in the 60's & 70's.

to add to my answer...my answer was just based off how kylie is...i can completly understand though parents with children that wander...and i guess it would make sense after all...i just didnt think about that before...and also yes its true that anything works when it comes to your childs safty...

so i think in a way im saying this thread kinda changed my views on it a bit

That's the way it was when I was a kid. No worries of being kidnapped or getting lost or riding your bike around the neighborhood alone or with a couple of friends, (or blocks away to a mall or a park, for example).

The parks had more interesting stuff in them; now parks and playgrounds are "P.C.'d" down so much that the daredevil stuff we could do back then is gone and also there are padded ground areas, not hard cement, blacktop or woodchips.

Yep. My Mom would go to the grocery store or any store for that matter with three kids under 5 years old and we three would all walk right besides her or next to the cart or holding her hand. And, no, we weren't on Ritalin or any downer drugs; we were just behaved. :D
